SHOW-CASE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 788,979, dated. May 2, 1905.

Be it known that 1, WILLIAM K. VVILLIAMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in show-cases, and relates more particularly to that class of showcases known as all-glass show-cases, the front, top, and ends being made of plate-glass and secured together by means of metallic fastenings.

The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The objects of the invention are, first, to furnish suitable means for securely retaining in position the glass plates when they are set up into a show-case; second, to combine with the front and rear corner-fastenings of the plates a metallic strip connected to the fastenings in such a manner as to retain the same securely in place; third, other objects hereinafter described and claimed. These objects I accomplish by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows an end view of a show-case with the front corner and rear corner fastenings secured together in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 shows a part of one end of the case on an enlarged plan for the purpose of showing more fully the arrangement of the metallic fastening which connects the rear and front corner-fastenings. Fig. 3 shows a plan View of one of the end plates and a portion of the front plate with a metallic strip connecting the rear and front fastenings. Fig. 4 shows a perspective view of the clip K, which forms a part of the front corner-fastening. Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of the rear corner-fastening, which holds the end plate to the frame of the case. Fig. 6 is a detail View of the front clip. Fig. 7 is a detail perspective view of the front corner binding-' strip.

A represents the base of the show-case constructed in any suitable manner and adapted to support the body of the show-case.

B shows the front glass, which is engaged with the clip N, which forms a part of the front corner-fastening.

O is the top glass plate of the case.

D is the rear corner-post.

E is the front corner binding-strip, which binds together the clips K and N.

E is a hook, preferably made integral with E, which is adapted to engage with the top plate 0, as shown in Fig. 1.

F is the rear fastening, which in the example of my invention shown in the drawings consists of a clip having a rearward projection J, which is provided with an opening for a screw or bolt to fasten the same to the rear frame of the show-case. This rear fastening is also provided, preferably, with an opening M, adapted to receive cement for securing the clip portion of the fastening to the glass end plate.

H is a metal binding-strip which is secured to the front corner-fastening K in any suitable manner. The binding-strip H is composed of thin metal and lies beneath the top plate upon the upper edge of the end plate G. It will be understood that one of these binding-strips is used at each end of the showcase. Above this binding-strip, as shown in the drawings, there is a felt strip I, which conceals the binding-strip H from sight and This felt strip, however, may be dispensed with and may be used either above or below the metal binding-strip H. I prefer to solder securely the binding-strip H to the front corner-fas tening and also to the rear corner-fastening.

The front corner-fastening is preferably composed of the clip N, which engages with the front plate B of the show-case, as shown in Fig. 3, in combination with a clip K, the form of which is shown in Fig. 4 and which engages with the end plate Gr. (Shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3.) The clip N is provided with a recess 12., which receives the edge g of the plate G, which projects a distance beyond the clip K, so as to form a close joint when the plates B and G are brought together. These two clips are bound and secured together by means of the plate E, which has its ends bent on itself to form hook edges E to engage the clips, as shown in Fig. 3. The clip K isprovided with a depression L, with which the binding-plate E engages, and the clip N is provided with lugs 0, (shown in Fig.

In the drawings I have shown my preferred form of front and rear corner-fastenings; but it will be understood that my metallic connecting-strip H may be used in connection with any suitable corner-fastening of a showcase.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim to have invented, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. In a show-case having a front glass plate and end glass plates, a rear and a front corner-fastening and athin metallic binding-strip H secured to the front corner-fastening and the rear corner-fastening and lying immediately above the upper edge of the end plate of the show-case.

2. In a show-case, in combination with the end and front plates thereof a frontcornerfastening and a rear corner-fastening, a top plate to the show-case. a metallic strip secured to the front corner-fastening and to the rear corner-fastening and lying between the top plate and the upper edge of the glass end plate of the show-case.

3. A show-case having a front glass plate, end glass plates, and a top glass plate, in combination with a corner-fastening composed of clips secured to the front and end glass plates, one of said clips provided with projections for engaging the other clip, a binding-plate having means for locking the top plate and securing the plates together when placed in position, and a connecting means below the I WILLIAM K.
