PATENTED MAR. 21, 1905. A. KAUPMANN. SLEEVE- EXPANDBR. APPLICATION FILED JAN. 13, I905.
fizz/enress NITED STATES Patented March 21, 1905.
ANNA KAUFMAN N, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SLEEVE-EXPANDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 785,217, dated March 21, 1905.
Application filed January 13, 1905. Serial No. 240,872.
New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sleeve -Expanders, of which the following 1s a specification.
This invent1on relates to a sleeve-expander which is adapted to be removably secured within the sleeve of a shirt-waist or other garment. The expander improves the shape of the garment, the figure of the wearer, and insures coolness and comfort.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 I5 is a perspective view of my improved sleeveexpander. Fig. 2 is a side view of part of a garment containing the expander, and Fig. 3 a detail of the fastening-clasp.
The sleeve-expander is composed of a textile body a, made approximately of elbow shape. It is provided with two or more pockets at a for the reception of transverse stays 1) b*, which converge from the center toward the ends. At its upper edge there is w 5 formed a pocket (1 containing an elastic band 0. This band does not extend under the armpit, but terminates at the points a In this way the folds of the expander are properly gathered, while objectionable pres- To the pocket 0, are secured a number of sockets d of fasteningclasps, the headed complements cl of which are attached to the garment-sleeve A along the shoulder-seam A, so that the expander is readily detachable.
At its lower edge the expander is provided with a pocket a that contains an elastic band 6. This band likewise does not extend under the armpit, but terminates at the points a. The band e serves to hold the device snugly against the arm of the wearer.
It will be seen that my expander may be readily attached and removed, that it improves the figure of the wearer, contributes to her comfort, and permits free ventilation.
What I claim is 1. A sleeve-expander composed of a textile body having transverse stays, an upper pocket, an inclosed elastic band, and clasps piecured to the pocket, substantially as speci- 2. A sleeve-expander composed of a textile body having transverse stays, an upper pocket and a lower pocket, inclosed elasfic bands that terminate at points above the armpit, and clasps secured to the upper pocket, substantialry as specified.
Signed by me at New York city, (Manhattan,) New York, this 12th day of January,
ANNA KAUFMAN N Witnesses:
