PATENT ()EEIcE.
MEANS FOR FEEDING GAS-GENERATORS- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 784,740, dated March 14, 1905.
Application filed September 19, 190 Serial No. 224.975.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERNAND EMILE GUIL- BAUD, mechanician, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of 57 Rue de Courcelles, Levallois-Perret, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Means for Feeding Gas-Generators, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in gas-generators which are fed by means of endless screws or worms.
The object of the improvements is to prevent the clogging or choking of the fuel in the lower part of the receiver of the gas-generator and also to more evenly distribute said fuel throughout the whole section of said receiver.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the lower part of the gasgenerator provided with the improved device, and Fig. 2 is a sectional plan of the part of the gas-generator shown in Fig. 1.
For the purpose of preventing choking of fuel the gas-generator is provided at its lower part with several inclined tubes or conduits 3, which discharge in the angle formed by the lower part of the inner cylindrical wall of the gas-generator and the bottom of the latter. Instead of being radial these tubes are somewhat or approximately tangential to the inner cylindrical wall of said receiver 4. The said inclined conduits 3 being thus arranged at their upper ends with respect to the interior of the bottom of the receiver 4, it will be seen that the fresh fuel will always be fed to the lower part of the gas-generator and that it will be gradually more and more heated according to its upward progress, since the fuel below pushes that above it upward until the upper layer of fuel becomes ignited in the upper part of the receiver or generator.
Owing to the fact that the conduits 3 are approximately tangential t the inner vertical wall of the receiver 4, (see plan view Fig. 2,) the fuel under the impulsionof the Archimedean screws or worms is given a slight rotary movement within said receiver, owing to which it is caused to occupy all parts of the section of said chamber or receiver, and the twoincoming streams of fuel do not encounter each other. A suitable numberfor instance, twoof hoppers or reservoirs 5 are provided to contain the fuel to be fed by the worms, each of said hoppers being interiorl y provided at its lower part with one of said worms.
The fire-brick wall of the receiver or chamber 4: is also provided with two conduits 6 6, passing through said wall and closed by suitable doors, through which the gas-generator can be cleaned when necessary.
By the arrangement of the lower part of the gas-generator described the clinkers or ashes pass to the box 7, surmounted by a tube 8, having a cross-shaped opening 9, through which air supplied by the tube 10 is intro: duced, said tube 10 terminating in the box 7.
It is obvious that a larger number of hoppers 5 could be used for feeding the receiver.
I claim- 1. A gas-generator in which the fuel is continuously fed, having conduits oblique with respect to the vertical axis of the generator and with respect to the radii of the section of the receptacle, in which the said oblique conduits each having its upper discharging-orifice in the angle formed by the lower part of the interior cylindrical wall of the gas-generator and the base of the latter, and Archimedean screws located in said conduits.
2. A gas-generator in which the fuel is continuously fed, having conduits oblique with respect to the vertical axis of the gas-generator and with respect to the radii of the section of the receptacle, the said oblique conduits each having its upper discharging-orifice in the angle formed by the lower part of the interior cylindrical wall of the gas-generator and the base of the latter, in which the upper part of these conduits is straight and of a uniform section, and Archimedean screws located in said conduits.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FERNAND EMILE GUILBAUD.
