Description

W. P. WENTWORTH.
I Car-Stake Holder.
Patented May 26, 1868.
1 70-22672 Z-ar 1 Quint! gimme figment @ffits.
WILLIAM R WENTWORTH, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND THOMAS, S. SPRAGUE, OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 78,405, dated 111613 "26, 1868 cmtedated Eloy 16, 1868.
IMPROVED STAKE-HOLDER FOB. GARS.
'ro WHOM IT MAY eononnn;
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM P. WENTWORTH, of the city of Detroit, in the county of Wayne, in the State of Michigan, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in Car-Stake Holders; endI do declare that the following is an accurate description thereof, reference being held to the-z1ceomponyin,g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and making a part of this specification.
The nature of myinvention consists in attaching the stake A to the car-sill D by means of the cap or socket B, from the back side of which a bolt passes through the cor-sill D. To hold the stake A upright, as in Figure 1, I use the strap O, attached, with a, hingej oint, E, to the carsill D, (swagecl'or forged into the shape represented,) which passes over the stake A, and is fastened by the button F, turning upon the pin I in the slot G.
Figure 2 represents the stake when not in use. I
The stake A being loosened [it the top by unhooking the strap 0, can be turned outwards from the car by cutting a small bevel on the back side of the stake, 3511i- K, which allows the stake to be turned down out of thewvny by the side of the car-sill -D. The stake A is held in the cup or socket B by the pin 1. By this arrangement, no matter how heavy the lateral pressure may be at the top of the stake, when in use, I can readily relieve it, so that the stake may be easily turned down.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination and arrangement of the stake A, the cap or socket B, the strap C, the hingejoint E,the'
button F, the slot G, the pins H and I, and the bevel K, crrunged end described, or any other substantially-tho some. For the'purpose designed.
WILLIAM P. WENTWORTH.
