ATENT OFFICE.
BERNT L. BORSTAI) AND ERNEST I. FIE-DLER, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.
PAPER -BAGI HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 78d .027, dated March 7, 1905.
Application filed July 26, 190d. Serial No. 218,216.
To on whom (It may concern:
Be it known that we, BnRN'r L. BORS'IAD and ItaNns'r I FIEDLER, citizens of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Bag Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in bag-holders, its object being particularly to provide means for supporting a number of paper bags in such a way that one can be removed without interfering with the others.
To this end our invention consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
The accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, shows in perspective a series of our improved bag-holders supported from a horizontal bar.
In the drawing, A represents a horizontal bar, projecting from the opposite sides of which area series of hooks 2. Upon the hooks are hung the bag-holders l5. Theholder B is of wire bent to form spring-eyes 3 and outward ly- curved arms 4 and 5. The spring portions 3 tend to hold the free ends of the arms 4: and 5 together, as shown in the accompanying drawing. The end of the arm 4 is provided with a cross-strip 6 for the purpose hereinafter set forth.
In use the eyes 3 of the bag-holder B are sprung over the hooks 2. In using the holder to support the bags the upper ends of the bags C are first turned downwardly against the bodies of the bags and forced between the sides of the holder, as shown in the drawin The bags are so placed in the holder that their upper edges will stand inside the cross-strip (3. Inremoving the bags from the holder the inner bag is grasped by the lower end and pulled downwardly, the spring-arms holding the other bags from displacement. The crossstrip 6 prevents the upper edges of the bags being caught in the lower edge of the spring arm 4, thus allowing the bags to be more easily placed in and removed from the holder. We support a series of bag-holders from the bar A,so as to carry groups of various sizes of bags.
It will be noticed that the spring-eyes 3, which constitute the connected portion of the outwardly- bowed arms 4 and 5, are sprung toward each other to carry them over the ends of the hooks 2.
Having now described our invention. What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination a bag-holder consisting of a single piece of Wire bent to form a pair of eyes and a pair of outwardly-bowed arms, said eyes being susceptible of being sprung toward and from each other.
2. In combination a series of bag-holders each consisting of wire bent upon itself to form a pair of eyes, and to form a pair of outwardly-bowed arms, asupport, and outwardly projecting hooks carried by said support in position to project through said eyes to support said holders.
3. In combination, a bag-holder consisting of wire bent to form a pair of eyes, and to form a pair of outwardly-bowed arms, and a cross-strip carried by the free end of one of said arms.
4:. In combination, a series of bag-holders each consisting of wire bent upon itself to form a pair of spring-eyes, the wire being crossed adjacent to the eyes and bent to form outwardly-bowed arms, a bar and outwardlyprojecting hooks carried by said bar in position to project through said eyes to support said holders.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
BERNT L. BORSTA'I). ERNEST P. FIEDLER.
