ADELE RIDGIVAY SHERIVOOD, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
HOLDER FOR BOTTLES OR THE LIKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 781,684, dated February '7, 1905.
Application filed April 4, 1904. Serial No. 201,425.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADiiLE RIDGWAY SHER- wooD, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders for Bottles or the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to holders or supports for bottles, carafes. and the like, and has for its object the production of an appliance of this character possessing advantages in point of simplicity of construction and efiiciency in operation.
The nature of the invention will be readily comprehended, reference being had to the following detailed description and to the accompanying drawing, illustrating the invention in its preferred form of embodiment, it being understood that various changes and modifications may be made therein without exceeding the scope of the concluding claim.
In the drawing, which illustrates by a perspective view a holder or support embodying the invention, 1 designates a preferably circular base having feet 2 2 and from which extend vertical posts 3 3, having upper bifurcated ends a I.
The frame for the bottle, carafe, or the like consists of an upper circular band or hoop 5 and a lower similar band or hoop 6, each band or hoop being formed in two unattached sections and adapted to encircle the bottle, carafe, or the like at two points.
7 8 denote parts of a U-shaped hanger, each part having attached thereto sections of the upper and lower band or hoop. The inturned lower ends 9 10 of the hanger parts are detachably secured together, preferably by providinga hook 11 on the part 9, which engages an eye 12 on the part 10. The upper ends of the hanger parts are bent outwardly to provide trunnions 13 II, which rest in the bearings formed by the bifurcations of the posts 3 The frame is therefore suspended from the upper ends of the posts, permitting tilting of the bottle or the like held in the frame for pouring the contents.
In practice the bottle or the like may be lowered into the frame while the latter is in suspended position, or the frame may be removed and opened, with the hook and eye as the hinge, to receive the bottle or the like, after which it is closed around the bottle or the like and placed in the main frame.
It will be understood that the internal diameter of the bands or hoops 5 6will conform to the external diameter of the inserted bottle or the like. Consequently the parts of each band or hoop will be brought together, as shown, to form the complete band or hoop. The bottle or the like is directly supported by the inturned ends 9 10.
I claim as my invention A holder for bottles and the like, comprising a main frame consisting of a base and posts thereon, a bottle-support consisting of a U-shaped frame formed of two sections hinged together at their lower ends and having their upper ends bent to provide trunnions for suspending the support in the main frame, the lower ends of the frame-sections forming the direct support for the bottle or the like, and upper and lower circular bands or hoops each formed of two detached halves, said parts beingsecured to the frame-sections.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ADIIIIE RIDGWAY SHERWOOD.
