PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN J. CRAGGY, OF MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
HOT-WATER BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 780,551, dated January 24, 1905.
' Application filed February 29, 1904. Serial No. 195,870;
To all whom it may concern:
' Be'it known that I, BENJAMIN J. CRA'GGY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manchester, in the county of Hillsboro and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hot-Water Bottles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to useful improvements in hot-water bags; and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this character having a filling-aperture independent of a vent-tube which is provided with a funnelshaped guard about the same with a brace between said guard and tube and in the provision of an apertured cap fitted over the tube.
My invention consists, further, in various details of construction and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically definedin the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this plication, and in which drawings-- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved bag, showing the vent feature in section. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional View of the vent feature, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a hotwater bag, which may be of anyshape or construction, provided with a filling-aperture'A and a strap a, whereby the bag may be conveniently hung up or supported. At any suitable location, preferably along the upper marginal edge of the bag or bottle, an aperture .B is formed through the wall of the bag, and
positioned in said aperture is a short tube C, which may be made of any suitable material and vulcanized or otherwise secured to the material of which the bag is constructed. Said tube is fastened substantially at its middle portion to the bag, and its outer end is threaded, as at B, and adapted to receivea cap D, which has interior threads D, designed to engage the threads B; Within the cap is surrounds the tube and cap, the marginal outline of said rib engaging the circumference of the tube C a slight distance above the aperture in the bag through which said tube passes,
as shown in the drawings. By this arrangement of the parts the tube is held rigid and prevented from tilting, and any steam issuing from the apertures 6 will contact with the inner surface of the guard, which in turn will deflect the steam upward and away from the filling-aperture of the bag.
From the foregoing it will be observed that by a bottle made in accordance with my invention means is provided for preventing the burning of the hands of an operator while filling the bottle by reason of the vent, which allows the steam to escapefrom the bottle and in its escape is deflected away from the fillingaperture by the provision of the housing or guard about the vent.
While I have shown a particular construction of vent apparatus as a part of my invention, it will be understood that I may vary the same as to details, if desired, without in any Way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A Water-bottle having a suitable fillingaperture, a tube passing through an aperture in the bag, an interiorly-threadedflanged cap fitted over the outer threaded circumference of said tube, and provided with perforations in the circumference thereof, a packing within said cap beyond the interior threads on the flange thereof, a guard about said tube, and
an annular rib projecting from the inner surface of said guard and engaging said tube, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN J. (JRAGGY.
