ROLAND B. HEIMBEOKER, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO TAYLOR BROTHERS COMPANY.
BRACKET FOR HOLDING AND LOCKING IN PLACE ANEROID BAROMETERS OR OTHER LIKE ARTICLES.
SEPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 778,488, dated December 27', 1904.
Application filed September 22, 1904.. Serial No. 225,470
To (all whom, it Duty concern:
Be it known that I, ROLAND B. HEIMBECKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Holding and Looking in Place Aneroid Barometers or other Like Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to brackets for holding and locking in place aneroid barometers and other like articles, and has for its object to provide a bracket that can be attached conveniently to a wall or other surface, that can be locked to the article that it is adapted to contain, that cannot be removed from place without first removing the article from it, and that when locked cannot be pried apart, so as to release the article.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the bracket, and Fig. 2 is a side view showing in dotted lines a barometer locked within it.
The bracket represented in the drawings is particularly adapted for aneroid barometers and instruments of similar shape and proportions.
1 is a plate, preferably of metal, that is approximately the size of the base of the instrument that is to be locked within the instrument. Holes 2 are made in the plate for screws, or other suitable means are provided 'by which the plate is attached to a wall or other surface. These screw-holes or means for attachment are so placed that the instrument when it is in place within the bracket will cover them. Adjacent ears 3 and 4: project horizontally from the plate 1 and maybe integral with said plate, as shown. A similar ear 5 projects horizontally from the plate 1 and is opposite to said first-mentioned ears. Posts 6 and '7 project at right angles out from said ears 3 and 4., respectively, and a post 8 projects at right angles out from the ear 5. Two curved arms 9 and 10, that conform to the contour of the instrument that is to be supported by the bracket, are attached, respectively, at one of their ends to the posts 6 and '7. One of these arms is pivotally attached to its post, so that it can be opened to receive the instrument. The other ends 11 and 12 of the arms 9 and 10, respectively, are extended at right angles to their respective curved portions, so that when said arms are closed around the instruments in the positions shown in Fig. 2 and in full lines in Fig. 1 the ends will come together, as shown in the drawings.
The ends 11 and 12 of the arms are bored, as represented by dotted lines 13 in Fig. l, to receive a padlock 14, whereby the arms may be locked together around the instrument. In Fig. 2 the arms are represented as closed around a barometer which is shown in dotted lines, the arms lying within a groove 15 in the casing of the instrument.
One of the arms, as 9, is represented as attached to the post 8, the bored end projecting beyond said post. The other arm, 10, is adapted to lie within a recess 16 in the post 8 when said arm is swung inwardly upon the instrument, as shown in the drawings. In this last-mentioned position its end 12 also projects beyond said post.
Then the bracket has been fastened in place upon a wall or other support by screws through the holes 2, the arm 10 is swung out till the instrument can be placed within the bracket, when said arm is closed around the instrument and locked by the padlock 14. hen the instrument is in place, the screws are covered and protected by it. Thus both bracket and instrument are locked, so that they cannot be removed by any one but the person who has the key to the padlock. The movable arm cannot be pried up or twisted, because it lies within the recess in the post 8, and the other arm is held rigidly by the posts to which it is connected.
VVhatI claim is- 1. A bracket comprising aback plate, provided with means for attaching it to a supporting-surface; arms that conform to the contour of the article to be held by the bracket, and adapted to lie within a groove therein; means for rigidly attaching one of said arms at both of its ends to said plate; means for pivotally attaching the other arm at one end to said plate; and means for locking said pivotal arm in upon the article to be held; substantially as shown and described.
2. A bracket comprising a back plate of approximately the size of the article to be held, and provided with means for attaching it to a supporting-surface, located behind said article when in place upon said plate; arms that conform to the contour of the article to be held by the bracket, and adapted to lie within a groove therein; means for rigidly attaching one of said arms at both ends to said plate; means for pivotally attaching the other arm at one end to said plate; and means for looking said pivotal arm in upon the article to be held; substantially as shown and described.
3. A bracket comprising a back plate, provided with means for attaching it to a supporting-surface; and having on one side the posts 6 and 7, and on the opposite side the post 8 having the recess 16 in one side, adapted to receive the arm 10; the arms 9 andv 10 con forming to the contour of the article to be held; means for attaching said arm 9 to said posts 6 and 8; means for pivotally attaching the arm 10 to said post 7; and means for locking said arm 10 in its retracted position; substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROLAND B. HEIMBECKER.
