SAMUEL PERRY, OE-SEAEORD; DELAWARE, AssIeNoR 'ro HIMSEEE END JOHN' L, coULRoRN.
Letters .Patent No. 77,756, datedMay 12, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN LETTING-JACK.
To ALL WHOM IT M AY CONCERN:
Be it known -that I, SAMUEL PERRY, of' Seaford, inthe countyof Sussex, and in the .State of Delaware,
have invented certain new and usefulImprovemeuts in .Track-Lifters; and do hereby declare that the lfollowing is a'fnll, clear, and .exact description thereof, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon. In the annexed drawings, making a. part of this specification- -A represents a base, consisting of' a board orzmetal of suitable size, and B represents a vertical post, y secured to or in the .base,'A.
Thepost B has a. slot -through it, in which is pivoted a lever, D, and'has an arm, C, framed into it, near the top, and securely braced; t'has also a block, c, pinned or bolted toits fnntfside, for thepurpose of arest and guide for the'v-ertical movable bar E, I
The arm Cvisprovided with aslot, .for the ratchet-bar F vto work in asa guide, and has pivoted to it the loop d, which works or catches in the teethof thera'tchet-bur F, and holdsit'in any given position or elevation.
E represents 'a movable vertical barprovide d with a slot, in which is pivoted'one endet" the lever` D, for, the purpose of a guide to the ratchet-bar F, to hold itin 'a vertical position.
A loop, e, is pivoted tothe movable bar E, andembraces and works in the ratchet-bar F;
The ratchet-bar F is suspended by meansof thetwo loops, rl and e,'a.nd is' provided with a catch or hoo'k, z, at the` bottom, which is designed to work under a railroad. or other track, or, in fact, any-object lying near the ground, for the purpose of 'raising the same. I i i l I It will be seen that theoperator, by pressing the end of* the lever-D downward, the vertical bar E,'witb the loop e, is raised, and thereby the ratchetbar F and its hooliva: is elevated, and there held by means ofI the l stationary loop d, and so on, by repeating the above, until the'object is raised-to theide'sired'elcvatio-n. It will be seen that this device may as well be used for a ,lifting-jack f or wagons, or any of the uses that n lifting-jack is put to, by letting the object rest-on the top of the ratchet-bar F.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim' as new, and desire to secure' by Letters Patent, is- The arrangement of. the staudardi, .with its slotted arm C, through which passes the rack F,'and to which isipivoted a loo-p, d, saidrack, beingoperated by the lever D passing through the standard, and 'kept in'positon bythe bar E and block e, all constructed and used as specied. l
In testimony that I claiinfthe foregoing, I have hereunto lset my hand, thislst'day ofDeeeuiber, 1867.
i I SAMUEL PERRY. Witnesses: JOHN L. ConLBoRN,
