Be it known that 1, JAMES R. MEROEREAU, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shower-Baths, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shower-baths, and has for its object to provide an attachment which by manipulation can be made to deliver the water for the bath either in the form of a douche or shower.
1n the drawings, Figure 1 represents in side elevation a shower-head embodying my in vention, being partially broken away to show in vertical section on the line 1 1 of Fig. 2 the parts located within said head; and Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same.
1 is a water connection, and E2 is an elbow by which the shell 3 of the shower-head is connected to said water-pipe 1 and through which the water is discharged into the showerhead. One end, 41, of the elbow 2 projects down into the shell 3 of the shower-head The shower-head is closed near its lower edge by a plate 5, that is perforated throughout its surface, as represented in Fig. 2, so that water falling upon it from the end L of the discharge-pipe will be in turn discharged through its perforations in the form of a shower or spray. The plate 5 is also provided with an orifice 6, that is larger than the perforations just referred to and through which all the water discharged through the water connection can be concentrated. Means are provided for connecting at pleasure the end 4: of the discharge-pipe with the orifice 6. The discharge-pipe 4t is located centrally with reference to said shower-head, while the orifice is eccentric. The connection between the two consists of a pipe 7, whose lower end projectsthrough the orifice 6. The upper end of the pipe is bent into a neck 8, that is adapted when in the position shown in Fig. 1 to lie beneath and receive the water discharged from the pipe 4. The connecting-pipe 7 is revolubly supported within the shower-head 3, so that its neck 8 may be turned i'rom un der the pipe l into the position represented by dotted lines 9 in both Figs. 1 and 2. When the neck 8 of the connecting-pipe 7 is in the position represented by the dotted lines 9, the water discharged from the pipe {t falls upon the perforated plate 5. Steps 10 and .11 limit the motion of the neck 8 with reference to its position below and at one side of the discharge-pipe, respectively. The connecting-pipe '7 is rotatively supported within the shower-head by means of the tube 12, which is represented as lying beneath a shoulder 13 on said tube and as supported in turn by feet let, that are attached to the plate (See Means are provided for rotating the connecting-pipe 7, so as to bring its neck either beneath the discharge-pipe t, as represented in full lines in Fig. 1, or on one side of said discharge-pipe into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, such as the overturned projecting ends 15 of the pipe 7.

3. In a shower-bath attachment the combination with a shower-head having a centrallylocated inlet-pipe for a Water-supply, a perforated bottom plate, and an orifice fora douche eccentrically located in said bottom plate, of a pipe 7, rotatively supported in said orifice, and having a neck 8, bent so as to lie IO below said inlet when the pipe is in one position, and means for rotating said pipe.
