To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST ENGEL, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bubble- Cup Nozzles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in what is herein particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its object being to provide simple, economical bubbleeup nozzles for drinking fountains, as well as to economize the use of water, by the employment of such nozzles, to insure a perfect bubble flow of the water regardless of customary fluctuations of pressure upon the same, and to prevent squirting of said water beyond the rim of such a nozzle incidental to partial closing of the hollow stem of such by a thumb or finger of a mischievously inclined person.
Figure 1 of the drawings represents a vertical sectional view of one of my improved bubble-cup nozzles having a water-supply pipe member thereof partly in elevation, the plane of the section being indicated by line 1-1 in Fig. 2, which Fig. 2 represents a horizontal sectional view on the plane indicated by line 22 in Fig. 1.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, 3 represents the water-supply pipe member of my improved bubble-cup nozzle having a plug a set fast in its upper end, the periphery of the plug being longitudinally grooved at suitable intervals thereof to provide water escape passages 5, but the outlet area of said pipe may be otherwise restricted. The central shank 6 of a shell 7 is screw-threaded or otherwise fitted on the upper end of the pipe 3 against a set-nut 8 thereon, and the general contour of the shell is preferably spherical. The mouth of the shell is contracted, and a flaring rim 9 of said shell is provided with preferably inclined apertures 10 at suitable intervals apart. The lower end of a horizontally partitioned hollow stem 11 is screwthreaded or otherwise fitted in the shank 6 of the shell 7, and a stop-flange 12 of the stem abuts the bottom of said shell. The stem 11 extends up within the confines of the rim 9 of the shell 7, and its upper end is enlarged and of semi-spherical contour to form a head 13 that restricts the mouth area of said shell. Between its stop-flange 12 and partition 14, the stem 11 is provided with ports 15 at suitable intervals apart, and said stem is similarly provided with ports 16 adjacent to said partition above the same.
In practice, the water from the pipe 3 ascends the bore of the stem 11 and finds its way through the stem-ports 15 into the shell 7 which shell serves as an expansion-chamber. Some of the water in the shell finds its way through the passage 17 between the stem-head 13 and the mouth-wall of said shell, and the remainder of the water finds its way through the stem-ports 16 to be discharged through the stem-bore at the upper end of the same. By adjustment of the shell 7 on the pipe 3, the space 18 in the shellshank 6, above the restricted outlet of said pipe, is increased or diminished, and thus the [low of water, in two streams, from the nozzle is regulated. The shell being properly adjusted, the two streams of water commingle to form a perfect bubble, this being an important feature of my invention. Waste water finds its way from within the confines of the shell-rim through the apertures 10 therein, and the stem-head 13 being within the same confines, the partial covering of the stem-mouth will not permit squirting of water beyond said rim.
I claim:
1. In a bubble-cup nozzle, a shell attachable at its lower end to a water-supply pipe and provided with a central hollow horizontally partitioned stem having ports on opposite sides of its partition, the upper outlet end of the stem being extended through the mouth of the shell clear of the same.
2. In a bubble-cup nozzle, a shell attachable at its lower end to a water-supply pipe and provided with a central hollow horizontally partitioned stem having ports on opposite sides of its partition, the upper outlet end of the stem being semi-spherical and extended through the mouth of the shell clear of the same.
3. In a bubble-cup nozzle, a shell attachable at its lower end to a water-supply pipe and having an apertured rim beyond a contracted mouth thereof, together with a central hollow horizontally partitioned stem having ports on opposite sides of its partition, the upper outlet end of the stem being extended through the mouth of the shell clear of the same but terminating within the confines of said rim.

In a bubble-cup nozzle, the combination of a Water-supply pipe having a restricted outlet, a shellattachable at its lower end to the outlet end of said pipe, and a hollow horizontally partitioned stem in the shell central of the same having ports on opposite sides of its partition, the upper outlet end of the stem being extended through the mouth of the shell clear of the same.
5. In a bubblecup nozzle, the combination of a water-supply pipe, a plug in the outlet end of the pipe having longitudinal grooves at intervals of its periphery, a shell attachable at its lower end to the outlet end of said pipe, and a hollow horizontally partitioned stern in the shell central of the same provided with ports on opposite sides of its partition, the upper outlet end of the stem being extended through the mouth of the shell clear of the same.
6. 7. In a bubble-cup nozzle, the combination of a water-supply pipe having a restricted outlet, a shell adjustable on the pipe to vary space above said outlet of the same, and a hollow horizontally partitioned stem in the shell central of the same having ports on opposite sides of its partition, the upper outlet end of the stem being extended through the mouth of said shell clear of the same.
