Be it known that 1, ROBERT Knn'rscu- MAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspensory Attachments for Garters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to facilitate the attachment of a hose-supporter to the corset of the wearer, to secure greater resilience and, as a consequence, greater ease to the wearer, to reduce the cost of construction, and to secure other advantages and results, some of which may be referred to hereinafter in connection with the description of the working parts.

The invention consists in the improved suspensory support for garters and in the arrangements and combinations of parts of the same, all substantially as will be hereinafter set forth and finally embraced in the clauses of the claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several figures, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garter for ladies hose having my improved suspensory support. Fig. 2 isafront elevation of the said support; and Fig. 3 is a section of the same, taken on line at, on an enlarged scale.

in said drawings, 5 5 indicate two straps or tapes of textile fabric, preferably of elastic webbing, from which branching tapes 6 6 are buckled or otherwise secured, the said branching tapes at their lower ends being provided with clips or fasteners 61 to engage the top of the stocking or hose in any suitable manner.

At the top of the straps or tapes 5 5 is the suspensory support 7, by means of which the said tapes are held together and attached to the lower stud or fastening of a corset-clasp. Said suspensory support 7 comprises asingle piece of wire bent at its center to form a central vertical eye 8, the opening 9 of which is somewhat of the nature of a keyhole-slot, being enlarged, as at 10, to permit the passage therethrough of the head of the stud of the corset and narrow, as at 11, to receive the shank of the stud and prevent the withdrawal of said stud from said slot. At the lower end of the eye 8 the wire is bent laterally in 0pposite directions, as at 12, and is then bent downwardly and inwardly, as at 13, in a direction parallel with the extensions 12. Beneath the vertical eye 8 the ends of the wire are inclined upwardly, as at 14, crossing one another, and at the extremities of the said wire the same are fastened to the wire at the angles formed by the eye 8 and extensions 12, the opposite extremities being turned around the angular portions, as at 17. By this construction two horizontal slots 151 are formed, into which the tapes or straps 5 5 are securely fastened by looping or otherwise.

The wire of the loop 8 is preferably flattened, as indicated in Figs. 52 and 3, so that it will not occupy too much space upon the shank of the clasp-stud to which it is attached. The support 7 being of wire permits a slight spring action when stress is brought upon the tapes 5, the said spring action conducing to the comfort of the wearer.

Thus constructed the device can be very quickly and inexpensively manufactured, and the tapes 5 5 are held thereby together and are removably attached to the stud, the separation of parts being conveniently and quickly effected when desired.

The eye 8 is not tightly closed at the bends or angles 15 15; but the wire at the bends is free to open slightly, so that the shank of the stud on being forced through from the wider part 10 of said eye into the narrow part 11 thereof may spread the sides 18 18 and bends 15 15, the said sides 18 being curved inward slightly at points 19 between the upper end of the slot or opening 9 and the wider part 10 thereof, so that the said sides after the passage of said stud will close slightly to prevent the return passage of the stud toward the larger part of the slot, the stud and sup port being thus held in proper operative relation Without danger of detachment.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. The improved suspensory support for garters, comprising a vertically oblong eye disposed at the upper part of said support and, below said eye, opposite horizontal extensions forming oblong tape-receiving slots for the broad webbing of the garter, the inner ends of the lower horizontal extensions being positively connected with the lower end of the eye, substantially as set forth.

2. The improved support comprising a wire centrally bent to form a vertical eye, the said eye having a keyhole-slot therein, the said wire at the lower end of said eye being bent laterally outward and away from the longitudinal axial line of said slot in opposite directions and then downward and inwardly bent to form horizontal loops, the extremities of said wire being fastened at the angles formed by the eye and loops extensions, substantially as set forth.

'3. The improved garter-support, comprising a piece of wire bent double and forming an eye with a slot therein, the said wire being outwardly bent at the lower end of the eye in directions perpendicular to said eye, the opposite ends being again bent toward one another and upwardly across one another forming loops and at their extremities being turned around the parts of the Wire lying at the angles formed by the eye and loops, substantially as set forth.
