SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 776,968, dated December 6, 1904:.

Be it known that I, WARNER L. Vns'rAL, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Red-- with. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through one of the posts. Fig. 3 1s a section on line :0 a, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals 1 l designate substantially semicylindrical sections constructed hollow and preferably formed of sheet metal and adapted to be placed at opposite sides of fence means 2, such as strips of board, or wire may be used instead. At each of the upper ends of the hollow sections 1 I form semicircular rings 3, provided with interior grooves, as shown.
The numeral 5 designates a cap-piece having an extended base 5, which is intended to project into and between the upper ends of the two sections. Above the base of the cap I provide two beads 4 and 4', the lower one of which, 4, is constructed of the same configuration as the semicircular grooves at the upper end of the sections, said head f being adapted to be mounted in the grooves, with the upper edges of said grooves interposed between a recess 4?, formed at the intersection of the two grooves A and 4!.
Each of the sections of the post is provided with rows of openings ar 'anged one above the other, and bolts 6 pass through these openings, and nuts are applied on the screw-threaded ends of the same, whereby the fence means is clamped between the sections, and at the same operation the base of the cap and the head 4:, respectively, are clamped to the semicircular grooves and upper end of the sect-ions.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is-.
A fence-post comprising two hollow semicircular sections formed of sheet metal and each having rows of openings therein, bolts passing through said openings and adapted to clamp a suitable fence means therebetween and between the bolts, said sections having at their upper ends semicircular rings, provided with interior grooves, a cap-piece having beads arranged one above the other, the lower one of which is constructed of the same configuration as the grooves of the senlicircular rings and mounted therein, the upper peripheral edges of the ringed grooves being. inclosed between the recess of the two beads, an elongated base-piece on the cap-piece mounted into the upper ends of the sections below the grooves and extending down into the sections, and said lower bead and said base-piece of said cap-piece, respectively, being clamped to the said grooves and said upper ends of said sections, substantially as specified.
