Be it known that I, LOUIS E. SADLER, a citi- Zen ot' the United States,residing at Attleboro, in the county oi' Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful lmprovement in Ornamental Fing'erRing's,'of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improvement in the construction of ornamental iingerring's, and more particularly to an improvemeut in the means 'For securing an ornamental head to the ring.
The object oi' my invention is to secure the ends or joint of the ring and ornamental head permanently together without the use of solder.
A further object of my invention is to construct a plated finger-ring having an ornamental head so that the entire exterior surface of the ring is covered by the plate, which may be of gold or other precious metals.
My invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction or' an ornamental iingerring having' a joint in which is a circular aperture formed hy semieireular abutting' ends, a tubular rivet extending' upward through the aperture, a cap adapted to secure the semicircular abutting' ends together, a plate secured on the cap hy the tubular rivet, and an ornamental head secured to the plate by rolling lips on the head under the plate, as will he more fully set 'forth hereinafter.

The cap c, having the central hole c in its top coinciding with the aperture rt and the downwardly-extending sides c2 c2 shaped to lit the semieircular ends fz a', is placed over the ends with the tubular rivet 7) extending through O the hole' c/ in the cap and secured to the ends by rolling the sides c2 c2 under the ends, thus securing the ends together, as shown in Figs.
4 and 7. The plate d, shaped to approximately lit the ornamental head e and having the central hole ai', is secured on the cap c by upsetting the end oil the tubular rivet through the hole d onto the plate, as shown in Fig. 5, and the ornamental head a, having the downwardly-extending lips e e stamped from sheet metal, is secured to the plate (Z by rolling the lips e' e under the plate (Z, as shown in Fig. 7.
By the use oi my improved construction in ornamental iinger-rings a strong rigid ring is 7 5 constructed without the use oi' solder, and in plated or gold-lilled rings, to which my invention is particularly applicable the entire exterior surface is covered with the plate oi' precious metal, which is uninjurcd hy soldering'. 30
It is evident that the head of the tubular rivet could be secured under the top oi'l the cap c between the cap and the outer surface oi the ring and that the ornamental head a could be constructed to form the setting' for a 85 jewel or could be of any design or configurau tion desired without materially ail'ecting the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. An ornamental linger-ring havinga hoop with semicircular abutting' ends forming a circular aperture, an ornamental head, means ior securing the abutting ends of the hoop mto gether Without solder, and means for securing the ornamental head to the hoop Without solder, as described.
2. In an ornamental finger-ring, the combination with a hoop having abutting ends forming a joint in which is a circular aperture, of a tubular rivet, a cap having a hole for the tubular rivet, and sides adapted to iit over and under the abutting ends of the hoop to secure the tubular rivet to the hoop, as described.
3. In an ornamental finger-ring, the combinationwith a hoop having abutting ends forming a joint in which is a circular aperture, of a tubular rivet, a cap having a hole for the tubular rivet, and sides adapted to lit over and under the abutting ends of the hoop to secure the tubular rivet to the hoop, and aplate having a hole through which the tubular rivet extends and is upset to secure the plate to the hoop, as described.
4. An ornamental linger-ring consisting of a hoop having semicircular abutting ends forming a joint` in which is a circular aperture, a tubular rivet extending through the aperture, a cap having a hole for the tubular rivet and sides adapted to tit over and under the semiciroular abutting ends of the hoop, a plate having a central hole through which the tubular rivet extends secured on the cap by upsetting the end of the rivet onto the plate, and a sheet-metal ornamental head having lips secured over the plate by rolling the lips under the plate, as described.
5. An ornamental finger-ring consisting of a hoop having semicircular abutting ends, atubular rivet, a Cap havingahole for the tubular rivet through which it extends and sides adapted to fit over and under the semieircular abutting ends of the hoop, a plate having a central hole through which the tubular rivet extends secured on the cap by upsetting the end of the rivet onto the plate, and an ornamental head having lips secured over the plate by rolling the lips under the plate, as described.
6. In an ornamental finger-ring, the combination of a hoop a, a tubular rivet a cap c, a plate (Z, and an ornamental head e, as shown and described. Y
