SIDING OR FLOOR CLAMP.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 776,57 5, dated December 6, 1904.

To all whom, it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HENRY W. VVEOKMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Siding or Floor Clamps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

The object and purpose of the present invention is to provide a clamp designed to properly seat and connect the tongues and grooves of siding and flooring and to temporarily hold the same after they have been properly clamped until they have been permanently secured by nails.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View showing the clamp properly applied and a board temporarily clamped to be nailed. Fig. 2 is'a detached view of the clamp-head. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the joist or studding connecting bar.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawlngs.

1 represents the joist or studding connecting bar, which is substantially of the form shown in Fig. 3, and, as shown, it is provided with the right-angled portion 2, which rightangled portion is provided with the piercingpoint 3, which piercing-point is so located that it will temporarily engage the backs of studding or the bottom or under side of joists.

To the bar 1 is pivotally attached the clampbar 1, which clamp-bar is so formed that its right-angled portion 5 will come in contact with the outer faces of studding or the top faces of joists, as the case may be. To the connecting-bar 1 is pivotally attached the lever 6, which lever is formed of suificient length to give the desired amount of leverage to properly clamp and seat a strip of siding or flooring. To the lever 6 is pivotally attached the clamp-head 7, which clamp-head is provided with the groove 8, which groove is adapted to receive the tongues of siding or flooring, substantially as illustrated in Fig. 1.

signed to be nailed the clamp-head 7 is provided with the open portion 9, by which arrangementnails can be driven through the board and into the joists or studding, as the case may be.

It will be understood that as the lever 6 is forced downward the bars 1 and 4 will be brought into position to clamp said bars upon the joists or studding, which result is brought about by the upward movement of the pivoted end of the lever, said lever being fulerumed upon the clamp-head 7 by means of the crossbolt 10. It will be understood that as the pivoted end of the lever 6 is moved upward the forward or upward end of the bar 2 will be thrown upward and the rear or bottom end of the bar 4 moved upward equal to the upward movement of the pivoted end of the lever 6.

For the purpose of holding the lever 6 in its lowered position, which is the position clamping the board, said lever is provided with a series of notches 11, which notches are for the purpose of engaging the bottom or lower end of the bar 12, which bar is pivotally attached to the connecting-bar 1. For the purpose of providing various attachments for the bar 12 and for the leverG with reference to the connecting-bar 1 said connectingbar is provided with a series of apertures 13.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a clamp of the class described, aconnecting-bar provided with a right-angled portion having a piercing-point, a clamp-bar pivotallyconnected to said connecting-bar, a lever pivotal-1y attached to the connecting-bar, and a clamp-head provided with a groove and an open portion pivotally connected to the lever, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2.
