Description
@hitch ftuts stttnt i. @fitter Lettere Patent No. 77,580, dated May 5, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN SBRINGS FOR WATCH-CASES.
@the Siphon referrer tu in time Enters utmt mit uniting part nt the same.
TO ALL WHOM I'I MAY CONCIIRN: V
Be it known that I, E. H. BUCKLAND, or" Springeld, Hampden. county, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Watches; and do hereby declare that the following is a. full :mdclear description thereof, reference hein;` had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I i
Figure 1 represents n sectional view ofthe rini of n watch-euse, and
Figure 2 is n detailed view of n part of my invention, as'shown in fig. 1.
This invention consist-s of-an improvement upon my improved arrangement of catch and throiv-up spring,
for which application for patent was made, February 5, 1868, and is intended to obviate a diiculty arising from the application of my improved spring to some forms of' we tches.
In my first application, (referred to,) the cet-chend throw-'up spring nrc formed in one piece, reaching more thanhalf around the inside groove in the case. "This spring is shown here in iig. 1, und is applied to an old watch-case where the catch was' not in front ofthe push-pin.
In my former application, the catch was either formed upon ,the end of the push-pin A, or it wasplaeed upon the sprinfor B'itsclf;l When, however?, the spring B is to beinpplied to an old arrangement of push-pin, as here shown, it is necessnr f thu-t the catch he either formed upon the new spring, or nnother piece'be inserted which cnn be adjusted to the various situations ofthe formcr czttclies respectively.
The iirst method is inconvenient, because n separate spring would probably have to be made for each watch re aired bvits insertion and the manufactured s rines could not be used ns the catch it formed u on them p u 1 p o 7 i couid not be runde to tit every construction of case. The second method, however, I employ, und construct the new piece as follows:
Fig. 2 shows this new piece in det-ailY It consists of a. segment of circuler strip, C, conforminggr in circle or nearly so to tne inside circumference oi' the rim. A catch; D, is formed upon its edge :1t one end. It is placed between the rim ofthe ense and the spring B, with the catch occupying theposition ofthe former catch, and is,
of course, operated by the spring B und push-pin A with preeiseiy the sume eiiectas if it had been formed upon the spring itself nt this point.
By this inenns I completely obvin'te the difficulty :iri'sing from the fact that nearly every old watch-case has its catch-socket cut in the rim nt n different point from its next neighbor, and this extraI piece is of no more cost in manufacture than would be expended upon thc formation of a. catch upon the push-pin itself, thus making the application ofthe single spring B equally convenient for old nndinew watch-ceses.l
Now, having described my invention, what I claim :1s new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'.lhe independentntch D, formed upon the strip C, in combinntion with the spring B and push-'pin Asub stantially es herein described,
E. H. BUCKLAND.
