Be it known that I, CARL R. LINDENBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Hoodwinks, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in hoodwinks.

The object of the invention is to provide a superior device and to simplify the construction and operation thereof.

Another object resides in providing a device that will be strong, durable, and efficient and one which will be comparatively inexpensive to make.

I/Vith the above and other objects in View the invention consists in the novel details of construction and operation, a preferable einbodiment of which is described in the specification and illustrated in the drawings, where-V Figure l is a front elevation showing the shutters and operating mechanism in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front elevation with the cover-plate removed and showing' the shutters and operating mechanism in elevation, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line a: of Fig. l.

In the drawings the numeral l designates the face-pad, which is suitably constructed and provided at each end with straps 2, by which the pad may be secured upon the head of the wearer. Truncated eyepieces 3 are supported upon the face of the pad and project outwardly. A rectangular frame 4 is supported upon the outer or truncated ends of the eyepieces at its lower end, in which suitable openings 5 are provided. Rotary shutters 6, provided with openings 7, adapted to normally register with the openings 5, are mounted in the frame upon pins 8, disposed directly over the openings so that by rotating said shutters the openings 7 may be caused to stand over the openings 5 or to be thrown out of register with the said openings 5, and thereby close the same. For the purpose of rotating the shutters a yoke 9 is connected at its outer end to pivot-pins 10, disters, whereby the shutters are rotated simultaneously. An open face-plate ll is secured upon the frame and supports the outer ends of the pivot-pins 8. A stub-shaft l2 projects through the face-plate and supports on the rear side thereof the swinging' disk 13, which is provided near its outer end on its rear side with a lug 14, which engages in the Lipper central portion of the yoke 9. Upon the outer end of the stub shaft l2, which projects through the face-plate, is mounted a lever 15, by which the swinging disk is manipulated.

It will be observed that when the parts are in their normal positions, as shown in Fig. 1- that is, the openings 7 of the shutters registering with the openings -the lever I5 will occupy a perpendicular position and the yoke 9 will lie close to the upper end of the frame with its pivot-points directly over the pivotpins 8. It is apparent that by swinging the lever l5 to either side the shutters will be simultaneously rotated by means ofY the disk and the yoke, and thus close the openings 5. In Fig. 2 the lever has been swung to the left and the parts are shown in the positions resulting from such a manipulation. It is to be observed that the pivot-pins 10 are always in horizontal alinement, thus insuring a simultaneous movement of the shutters.

I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction, as I may make various changes in the same without departing from the spirit of my invention.

1. In a hoodwink, the combination with a face-pad provided with projecting eyepieces, of a frame mounted upon the eyepieces, shutters having openings ad aptedto register with the eyepieces pivotally mounted in the frame, and means for operating the shutters.
