UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARION BROTHERS, OF ROBERTSVILLE, OHIO.
BUILDING-BLOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 773,244, dated October 25, 1904.
Application iiled J'uly 2,1904. Serial No. 215,088. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARION BROTHERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Robertsville, in the county of Stark and State ot' Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Building-Blocks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had tothe annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a' perspective View showing a portion of the outer shell broken away. Fig. 2 is a view of a building-block, showinga portion in section.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings;
In the accompanying drawings, l represents the inner portion of the building-block proper; and it consists of a bale oi' straw, hay, or other light material pressed into rectangular form in substantially the same manner that ordinary bales of hay are formed. For the purpose of providing a means for connecting strips of wood, boards, or other wooden structures or metal sheeting by means of nails the bales 1 are provided at their ends with Wood blocks or heads 2, which blocks or heads are placed in the baling-press in such a manner that when the bale is completed and ready to be bound by means of the usual binding-wires 3 said binding-wires will hold the blocks or heads 2 in the position illustrated in the drawings, thereby producing a rectangular structure having wood blocks or heads located at the ends thereof.
For the purpose of providing a waterproof block and at the same time properly uniting any desired number of blocks in a wall a cementvcasing or shell 4 is provided, which may be applied to thel baled block and wood heads before the blocks are placed in the wall or at the time the wall is constructed. It will be understood that in placing the blocks herein shown in a wall they should be so arranged that their joints will be alternated or broken in substantially the same manner as brick when placed in a wall.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a building-block, the combination of a lfibrous baled center, wood blocks located at the ends of the fibrous baled center, said wood blocks baled with the fibrous center, and a cement shell .located upon the outer surface of the baled center, and wood blocks, all arranged, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
MARION BROTHERS.
