Description
J. M. CROOKER &' F. TAPPAN.
CEMENT BLOCK CONSTRUCTION. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 28,1911.
Patented Dec. 12 1911.
v To all whom it may concern:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN M. CROCKER AND FRANK TAPPAN', OF COLDWATER, MICHIGAN.
CEMENT-BLOCK CONSTRUCTION.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June-28, 1911. Serial No. 635,718.
Be it known that we, JOHN M. CROCKER and FRANK'TAPPAN, citizens of the United States, and residents of'Coldwater, in the county of Branch and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cement-Block Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to the construction of blocks of artificialstone or concrete, and
has for its object the provision of an im-v proved block of the parallel type by which the blocks may be manufactured and shipped in sections to be set up to form a wall with an air space therein, the two parallel parts of theblock being rigidly held together by means of ties made of material that is a non-conductor of moisture, so that the inner wall of the building will be dry whatever the condition of the outer wall may be.
Our invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of an improved block in an assembled condition. Fig. 2, atop plan view, and Fig. 3, a 'view showing the block dismembered.
In the drawings similar reference characters will be used to designate corresponding partsthroughout the several views.
The block sections 1 are molded with grooves 2, and with threaded bolts 3 embedded therein and so secured that they will not turn. The tie members'consist ofplates Copies of this patent may be obtained for 4 provided with parallel flanges 5- that engage grooves 2 and formed with apertures 6 to receive the bolts 3, 7 indicating nuts enare made uniform for this purpose. Fur
thermore when the blocks and ties are assembled it will be apparent that they form a single rigid entity that may. be handled like an ordinary block.
Having thus described our invention what we claim is:
Patented Dec. 12, 1911.
In a building block, paralleLblock sections having grooves, threaded bolts secured in said block-sections, and projecting from said grooves, and tie members comprising plates having parallel flanges, said flanges being formed with apertures to receive the bolts in the block. v
In testimony whereof we signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN M, CROCKER. FRANK TAPPAN.
