BLOCK-MOLD.
Specification of Letterslatent.
Application filed June 6, 1910.
, Patented Mar. 7, 1911.
Serial No. 565,207.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLIE CARTER and SOLOMON MILLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Bone Gap, in the county of Edwards and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Block-Molds, of which the following is a specification.
Our present invention relates to block molds of the expanding and separable type, our object being to provide a simple and inexpensive construction in which to mold tapering blocks, and one which will be strong and durable and wherein the parts may be readily and quickly replaced, the principal use of which blocks is to form foundation stones for frame buildings, such as barns, granaries, corn-cribs and the like, under which the blocks are placed vertically with their larger ends set into the supporting surface.
with this in mind, our invention resides in the features of construction set forth in. the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the assembled mold, Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section therethrough, Fig. 1 is a transverse vertical section therethrough, taken on line ea of Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 is an. enlarged detail of a fragment of one of the sides.
Referring to these figures, the base 10, of the mold, has equi-distantly spaced bearing blocks 11 upon its under surface, and secured thereto transversely thereof, the ends of said blocks having U-shaped members 12 secured thereto. The sides 13, of the mold, have vertical bars 14l-. secured upon their outer surface to coincide with the members 12, the lower ends of said bars being tapered and bent outwardly to form locks 15 which ongage the U-shapcd members 12 when the lower edges of the sides 13 are placed in position along the longitudinal edges of the base 10. The inner faces of the sides 13 are provided with transversely alined pairs of downwardly converging angle bars 16, to receive, thereagainst, the partition plates 17 extending between the sides 13 and which are tapered in accordance with the flare of the sides as shown. The upper edges of the sides 13 are provided with a plurality of slots 18, these slots being located at the ends of the sides and between each pair of angle bars 16, and being adapted to receive therein the connecting bars 19 which extend through the sides 13 and have. transverse pieces 20 at one end and have their opposite ends apert-ured to receive locking pins or keys 21, con nected loosely thereto by chains These bars 19, being rigid, thus serve to connect the upper edges of the sides 13 without interfering with the mold spaces, that is, the spaces between the partition plates 17 of each pair. The parts thus formed may be readily and quickly placed together and taken apart, and the connecting members of the sides and base, while strong and lasting, may be readily removed when damaged, and others put in their place.
We claim:
The combination of a base, upwardly extending and outwardly flaring sides, relatively engageable means carried by said base and sides to connect the lower edges of the latter upon the-sides of the former, angle bars secured in alined, downwardly converging pairs upon the inner surfaces of said sides, )artition plates disposed against said bars, said sides having slots in their upper edges at their ends and between each pair of said angle bars, and connecting members extending through the said slots, having means to engage the outer surfaces of the sides to prevent the same from s n'eading.
In testimony whereof we afi'ix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
