IMPROVED WINDOW`SASH` HOLDER.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, EDWARD ANDREWS, of Pottsville, in the county of Schuylkill, in the State of Pennsylvania, Ahave invented a new Mode of' Holding. Window-Sashes; and I do hereby declare that the following is. a

full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon. l

Figure 1 is a view showing the sash shut, held in place bythe rack C, and the mode of application complete. Figure 2 is a view of circular box, A, showing the slot for rack C to slide through; also, the manner the latch B is heldin place. v Figure 3 is an interior view ofthe box. A, showing the spiral spring J operating against the latch B.

Figure 4 is a view of the latch B, showing the slot the rack C also slides in. Y This invention consists in providing Ywindowashes with the means of being raised or lowered at pleasure `without ropes or weights; also, securely fastening them in any place desired.

To enableothers skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.

I construct the box A, having the slot, asshown -at iig. 2, and the latchB formed as shown at iigs. 3 and 4;

also,'having a slot in it to correspond with the slot in box A; the end of latch B sliding in lower partof the slot in box A, and the pistou part working in cylinder part of the same, where it is operated'upon by the spiral spring J, as shown at fig. 3; the upper box being secured to upper part ofA sash, D', and the upper part of the lower sash being provided with another of similar construction, secured in line with each other, so that the rack C passes freely through the slots in each. The rack C, having notches for the latchB to slip in, is fastened to the upper part of the window-frame, as shown at iig. 1.

The operation is asfollows: The body of the finger being thrust under the projecting part of box-A, the thumb pressing against the end of latch B, slides it out oi' the notch in the racl C, andallows the sash to be raised or lowered to any position. Then, by relieving the latch B, the spiral spring .If'orces the latch into the corresponding notch in rack C, therebyT securely fastening the sash as desired.

The advantage of this arrangementl is raising or lowering both sashes, and securing them, without ropes or weights, and preventing them frombeing moved from the outside.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The arrangement and combination. of the rack C, box A, latch B, and spring J, operating itt the manner and for the purpose herein described and specified. i
