Be it known that I, ALEXANDER MARTIN, of Basel, in Switzerland, have -in-vented a. new 'and improved Match-Lighter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a .full and exact description thereof, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing, forming pal-t of this speciicaton, in whic'hi Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a match-safe having my improvement applied aspcover, and Figure 2 a front view of the match-lighter itself. .Y
I The nature of my invention consists in providing match-safes, or any other-articles, with a metalgrzite, which enables one to kindle friction-u1atches with facility, without: being liable to wear out like other match` lighters.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and uso my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction und operation.
I construct match-salles in any oi' the known forms,- and apply thereto sai-d metal grate as cover', (A, in fig. 1,) which may be turned in pivots B. My improvementfconsisting in said metal grate, fig; 2, is similar in construction to theiron or steel reeds used on looms, and is composed oi`- metal bars. C, which are placed parallel' to each other at equal distances, and fastened at both ends, D and E.
To light the match instantly, it is only necessaryto rub it across said grate. The gratealone, without thebox, as shown in' fig. 2, can also be used on walls, fastened thereto for the purpose as aforesaid, and in various ways; for instance, it can he attached to cigar-cases of anyV description.
