PATENT OFFICE.
BLADE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,695, dated August 16, 1904.
Application filed December 10, 1903. Serial No. 18 L572. (N0 model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, O'rro KAMPFE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blade-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in holders for blades or other similar devices and is illustrated in its preferred form in the accompanying drawings, in which similar reference-letters refer to correspondingparts.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side view, Fig. 2 a back view, and Fig. 3 a cross-sectional view, of a construction embodying said preferred form. I
A represents the blade-holder proper, which, as shown, is comprised of two parts, a back (0 and sides a. series of slots 6, which are shown as substantially elliptical in shape and which should each be of greater extent in the direction running across the back than in the direction of the longitudinal axis of said back. These slots, as shown, are arranged at an angle of substantially forty-five (45 degrees to the longitudinal axis of said back; but this angle may be Varied somewhat. The side portions ct are shown as provided each with two lugs or extensions a each of which is preferably provided with an aperture 12. Preferably the back portion and side portions and lugs will be integral, as shown in the drawings, and the lugs will be formedby cutting away to a greater or less extent the central part of the side portions. By choice the cut-away portion will be in a curved form, as shown.
The slotst and the apertures I), as above described, give additional resiliency to the metal both of the back and side portions of the blade-holder. The arrangement of the slots 6 at an angle less than a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the said back entirely does away with or at least materially lessens any danger of the strop being torn or scratched The back a is provided with av or cut as the back of said blade-holder is moved along the same. The shape of the slots, as already described, adds still further to the carrying out of this object.
What I claim as new is 1. The combination with a blade-holder of a plurality of slots arranged on the back of said blade-holder and at an angle of less than ninety (90) degrees to'the longitudinal axis thereof.
2. The combination with a blade-holder of a plurality of slots arranged on the back of said holdersaid slots being of greater extent in the direction in which they run across the back of said holder than in the direction of the longitudinal axis thereof.
3. The combination with a blade-holder of a plurality of slots arranged on the back of said blade-holder and at an angle of less than ninety (90) degrees to the longitudinal axis thereofsaid slots being of greater extent in the direction in which they run across the back of said holder than in the direction of the longitudinal axis thereof.
4. The combination with a blade-holder of a plurality of slots arranged on the back of said blade-holder at an angle of less than ninety (90) degrees to the longitudinal axis thereof, and side pieces connected to said back and each provided with an aperture therein.
5. A blade-holder comprising a back portion and side portions-the side portions hav- .ing the central part thereof cut away to form one lug at each end.
6. A blade-holder comprising a back portion and side portions, and lugs formed one at each end and provided with an opening in each lug.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OTTO KAMPFE.
