PATENT OFFICE.
EMILE J. MONTIGNY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CORSET ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,307, dated August 9, 1904,
Application filed December 31, 1903. Serial No. 1873M. (N0 model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMILE J. MONTIGNY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Corset Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in corset attachments in the nature of a pad or compressor designed to reduce the abdomen of the wearer, an object being to provide a device of this character so constructed as to be readily attached to corsets and as easily detached therefrom when not required for use.
Other objects of the invention will appear in the general description.
I will describe a corset attachment embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corset attachment embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the corset with the attachment in section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a front view of the device, and Fig. 4 is a section on the line 1 4: of Fig. 1.
As here shown, the device comprises a pad 5, provided with pockets for receiving steel or other stiffening plates 6, which are, as here shown, diagonally disposed, so as to provide long bearing surfaces in a comparatively short vertical space. Secured vertically on the front of the pad and at the center are eyeplates 7, designed to be engaged with fastening-studs 8 on the corset and with which eyeplates 9 on the corset also engage.
Secured to the pad and extended from opposite sides thereof are draw-straps 10. These draw-straps when the device is in use pass. through slits 11 in the corset and near the sides thereof and engage with buckles 12, secured to the corset. While I have shown the pad member as oval in contour, it is obvious that it may be otherwise shaped without departing from the spirit of my invention. By arranging the pad to engage with the fastening-studs on the corset it is obvious that the pad may be raised or loweredthat is, placed at any desired position with relation to the corsetand it will also be understood that it may be used in connection with any of the prevailing forms of corsets, it only being necessary to form the slits 11 therein and to attach the buckles 12. By means of the straps and buckles any desired pressure may be attained.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. As a new article of manufacture for use in connection with corsets, a pad, diagonallydisposed stiifeners in the pad, devices on the pad for detachably engaging .with fastening devices on the corsets, and draw-straps extended from the pad.
2. The combination with a corset provided with slits, buckles on the corsets, and fastening devices on the corsets, comprising studs,
of a pad, a central Vertical row of eye-plates on said pad and designed for engaging with said studs, and straps extended from the pad for passing through said slits and engaging with the buckles.
3. The combination with a corset having slits, buckles on the corset, adjacent to said slits, and fastening devices on the corset, comprising studs, of a pad, stiffening-plates in the pad, a vertical row of eye-plates on the pad for engaging with said studs, and straps extended from the pad for passing through said slits and engaging with the buckles.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EMILE J. MONTIGNY.
