Description
PATENTED AUG. 9, 1904. D. P. PRINTZ.
FIRE POT FOR STOVES, 8w. APPLICATION FILED DEC 10. 1902 NO MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented August 9, 1904.
DANIEL F. PRINTZ, OE READING, PENNSYLVANIA.
FIRE-POT FOR STOVES, 80c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 767,122, dated August 9, 1904.
Application filed December 10, 1903. Serial No. 184,538. (No model.)
To all whom 732' may concern:
Be it known that I, DANIEL F. PRIN'IZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fire-Pots for Stoves, &c., of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in stoves, and particularly to the fire-chamber thereof. The object of the same is to produce a fire-brick liner of such construction that the brick will be securely held in position and not be displaced by the action of raking or operating the grate-bars.
To this end my invention consists in the details of construction and arrangement of the several parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of a stove, showing my invention. Fig.
2 is a detail view showing one of the fire-bricks,
in perspective.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the brick or liner. The front portion of its upper edge is curved or inclined, and the lower front edge is reduced oncut away across its entire face, indicated at 3. A support 4 is secured to the oven-wall, near the base thereof, and said support is provided with an upwardly-projecting lip along its front edge, and said lip is adapted to engage the reduced or cut-away portion 3 of said brick 1. Along the rear face 5 of this brick I form one or more longitudinal grooves 6.
The numeral 7 indicates the oven-wall of the stove, and this wall is formed with a number of longitudinal ribs 8, adapted to engage the grooves 6 in the brick 1.
A clamp or plate 9, having a curved or inclined front end, is secured to the top of the oven-wall, and said inclined portion engages the inclined or curved upper edge of the brick or liner in such a manner that when the bolt or fastening means for the plate is tightened the inclined forward end will exert a pressure on the inclined or curved upper edge of the brick or liner, so as to draw the same close to the oven-wall.
The numeral 10 indicates the approximate location of the grate-bars.
With my improved construction and mounting of the bricks it will be seen that when these bars are rocked, as during the shaking down of the fire, all jarring, which tends to raise the bricks from their resting-place, thus allowing the ashes to gather underneath them, causing them to lean away from the oven-wall and forming an air-space between them and the said wall, is entirely overcome, as any movement whatever of the brick would cause the clamp to force the same closely against the oven-wall.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a stove, the combination with an ovenwall provided with longitudinal ribs formed on its face, and a rest or support secured near the base of said wall, said support being provided with an upwardly-extending lip along its front edge, of afire-brick liner provided with longitudinal grooves in its rear face adapted to receive the ribs on the wall, the lower front edge being reduced or cutaway and the upper front edge thereof being inclined, said brick being adapted to rest upon the support in such a manner that the lip thereon will engage the reduced portion, and a clamp secured to the top of the wall engaging the inclined upper edge of the brick and adapted to draw said brick closely against the wall.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two sub scribing witnesses.
DANIEL F. PRINTZ.
