SAMUEL A. CREELMAN, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
CASH-RECORDER.
SPECIFICATION formng part of Letters Patent No. *765,3'78, dated July 19, 1904.
Application filed January 10, 1903. Serial No. 138,&62. (No model.)
TO' all whmn it mut/y concrn:
ing in the case, the paper being moved periodically by the opening of the drawer or other suitable meehanism, and my improvement particularly relates to means for moving the paper.
In the drawings herewith accompanying and making a part of this application, Figure l is a plan View of my improved cash-recorder, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing in detail the mechanism for Operating the paper.
In said drawings, A represents a case provided with a drawer B for the reception of money or other articles. In the top of the case are paper-rolls, one, C, for blank paper, and the other, D, for receiving the paper after the record is made. These rolls may be mounted in any convenient manner. For convenience the roll C is placed in front of the roll D. A toothed wheel F is Secured to and rotates with roll D. The teeth on wheel F are concavo-convex and spaced apart a distance equal to the space it is desired to move the paper each time the drawer is opened. The clutch member of the pivoted latch strikes against the conveX side of the teeth as the drawer is pushed'in and engages the concave side as it is pulled out, rotating the wheel one teeth-space each time it is pulled out, but producing no movement of the' wheel when the drawer is pushed in. In the top of the case is a writing-table G, which may be formed integral with the case, as shown in Fig. 1, or in any convenient manner. As shown, it is formed by making two openings H and I in the case and passing the paper O up through one opening and down through the other; but I do not intend to limit myself to this particular method of forming the table, it only being necessary that the paper pass over a narrow smooth surface which is eXposed to receive the record. At a point below the toothed wheel and in the same vertical plane a dog J is pivoted to the drawer. The position of the dog is such that when the drawer is pushed in it engages the front edge of one of the teeth on the wheel, whereby it is depressed until it'passes beyond the tooth, when, the dog end being the lighter, it passes up into the space between the teeth. Now when the drawer is opened the dog rotates the wheel one teeth-space, thus moving the paper over the table a distance deternined by the distance apart of the teeth on the wheel. A pawl K, pivoted to the case, engages the teeth on the wheel and prevents any backward movement thereof. For convenience in loading the paper-rolls and in removing the record the case is provided with doors L and M, opening into the top thereof.
Having thus described my invention an its use, I claim- 1. Ina cash-recorder, a suitable casing having two compartments one above the other, the upper compartment having two paperholders rotatably mounted thcrein, a toothed wheel Secured to and adapted to rotate one of said holders, a writing-table over which the paper is drawn by the rotation of the holders and an opening in the bottom adjacent said toothed wheel, and the lower compartment having a suitable drawer adapted to slide therein and provided with a dog having its clutch end lightest pivotally mounted in the side of the drawer and adapted to project upwardly through said opening in the bottom of the upper compartment and to engage said toothed wheel on the under side thereof when the drawer is closed and to turn said wheel one teeth-space each time the drawer is opened, Whereby the paper is moved over the table a' predetermined distance each time the drawer is opened.
2. In aeash-recorder, a suitable casing having two compartments one above the other, the upper compartment having two paperholders rotatably mounted thercin, a wheel provided with concavo-convex teeth spaced IOO v ment and to engage said toothed wheel on Io the under side thereof When the drawer is closed and to turn said wheel one tooth-space through said opening in the upper comparteach time the drawer is opened, whereby the paper is moved over -the table a predeterrnined distance each time the drawer is opened.
In testmony Whereof I have afixed my 5 signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 8th day of January, 1903.
SAMUEL A. CREELMAN.
