TEMPORARY BINDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 765,355,

dated July 19, 1904.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, BENoI'r BRIARD and.

GEORGE M. BLEH, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in temporary binders for holding papers, files, &c., and comprises two boards or plates which are connected together by a rope or cord so arranged that the two boards may be drawn tightly together to hold the papers and in the provision of means for conveniently fastening the ends of the cord when the. two boards are brought together with sufficient pressure, thus providing means for securing the cords without the necessity of tying knots.

The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and in combinations and arrangements ofparts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically delined in the appended claims.

Our invention is illustrated in the nying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of our improved temporary binder. of the inner faces of the two boards, and Fig. 3 is an outer view of the two boards.

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A and B designate two clampingboards or plates, which may be made of any suitablematerial, and one of the plates, A, has eyes A on the outer face thereof positioned, preferably, in the longitudinal center of the board, and said eyes may have shank portions of any description fastened to the board. When itis desired to adapt the binder ready for use, the two boards are opened up and the papers placed between the same, the end of the cord is then drawn tightly and caught under corresponding ends of the strips D, and as the free, ends of said strips which project beyond the rivets holding the same are flexible they will bear with sufficient friction against the cord to securely hold the same and the boards in a clamping relation to each other.

By the provision of a temporary binder embodying the features of our invention it will be noted that the same may be adapted to hold piles of papers of various thicknesses and access may be readily had to the same by disconnecting the cords from the holdingstrips. 7

While we have shown a particular construction of apparatus embodying the features of our invention, it will be understood that we may make alterations in the details of construction of the same without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A temporary binder comprising two boards or plates, one of said plates carrying eyes and the other apertured near one of its longitudinal edges, a cord passing through said eyes and apertures, and flexible strips secured to one of the boards and adapted to receive and hold the ends of said cord, as set forth.

2. A temporary binder comprising two boards, eyes arranged along the outer face of one of sald boards, the second board having apertures near one of its longitudinal edges,

a cord passed through said apertures and eyes,

a transverse cord engaging strips secured to the outer face of the apertured board and adapted to receive and frictionally hold the ends of said cord, as set forth.

3. A temporary binder comprising two boards, eyes in one of said boards and the other board having aperturestherein, a cord passing through said eyes and apertures, flexible metallic strips arranged transversely BENOIT BRIARD. GEO. M. BLEH.
