CHARLES W. STAMBAUGH, OF DEMOREST, GEORG-IA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO JOHN I). BROVN, OF DEMOREST, GEORG-IA.
REEL.
SPECIFICATION 'Orming part of Letters Patent N 0. 764,389, dated July 5, 1904.
Application filed October '7, 1903. Serial No. 176,106. (No model.)
To all whom t may con/cera:
Be it known that I, CHARLES STAMBAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Demorest, in the county of Habersham and Statey of Creorgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Reels, of which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in reels especially adapted for use for rope, cord, and other flexible strips. Its object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device which will freely revolve and upon which the strip to be carried thereby can be readily placed.
The invention consists in providing a bracket or other support from which extends a rod. This rod is inclosed by a tube which bears on the end thereof and is adapted to freely rotate. Secured to the tube is a disk which forms a stand for supporting the rope or other material used in connection with the reel.
The invention also consists in the further novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, showing the preferred form of my invention, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective viewof the reel, having rope arranged thereon; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, the rope being broken away and the disk and its tube shown in section.
Referring to the figures by numerals of reference, 1 is a bracket having a head 2, in which is formed a socket 3. In this socket is seated the end of a rod LJawhich is inclosed by a tube 5. Vithin the upper end of this t'ube is a plug 6, having a groove 7 extending' therearound, and the tube is pressed into this groove so as to form a rigid connection between it and the plug. The plug is mounted on the end of rod 4: and forms a bearing for the reel. The lower endof the tube is screwthreaded, as shown at 8, and projects into and engages a washer 9, which is secured in any suitable manner to the bottom of a disk 10. Rope 11 or other suitable material is adapted to be placed upon the tube 5 and upon the disk l0, and it can be readily uncoiled by pulling upon it and causing the disk and its venient rack for the display of rope, twine, 6o
&c., in stores.
In the foregoing description I have shown the preferred form of my invention; but I do not limit myself thereto, as I am aware that modifications may be made therein with- 6 5 out departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof, and I therefore reserve the right to make such changes as fairly fall within the scope of my invention.
Having thus described the invention, what 7o is claimed as new is- 1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a bracket having ropeengaging means thereon; of a rod arranged within a socket in the bracket, a tube loosely inclosing the-rod, a plug at one end of the tube bearing on the rod, a washer detachably connected to the other end of the tube, and a disk secured at the center to the washer and surrounding a portion of the tube, said disk 8O being adapted to support a coiled rope.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a bracket having ropeengaging means thereon and asocket therein;
of a rod within the socket, a tube loosely in- 35 closing the rod, an externally-grooved plug within one end of the tube, said tube having a bead engaging'the groove, and the plug bearing upon the rod, a washer detachably connected to the other end of the tube and a disk rigidly connected to the washer and surrounding a portion of the tube, said disk being adapted to support a coiled rope.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES W. SIAMBAUGH.
