PATENT OFFICE.
RAILROAD-TARIFF HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 764,036, dated J uly 5, 1904.
Application filed April 2,1904. Serial No. 201,319. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, BENOIT BRIARD and GEORGE MIoHA EL BLEH, citizens of the United States, residing at Ohicago,'in the'county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railroad- Tarifi' Holders; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in paper-files; and the object of the invention is to produce a device of this character which is adapted especially as a railroad-tariff file-holder in which tariffs may be conveniently held and so arranged as to be of ready and convenient access.-
The invention consists, more specifically, in the provision of a series of tariff file-pockets having accordion-closing ends, one longitudinal edge of each file projecting beyond the open edge of the pocket and provided with a loop adapted to be engaged by a strap carried on the other longitudinal edge of the pocket, whereby the contents of the pocket may be securely held in place.
Our invention consists, further, in various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of our improved railroad-tariif holder open, showing the arrangement of the pocket-files. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view through the file. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of one of the pockets removed, showing the means for holding the tariff-sheets within the pockets.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A Adesignate the covers of our improved railroad-tarifi file and are of the usual construction, and intermediate the covers is a backing B, to which the various pockets, which are arranged in pairs, are securely held. Each pair of'pockets, which are designated in the drawings by letter O, is fastened along a stitching C to said back, and each row of stitching securing a pair of pockets is spaced apart, as shown clearly in the sectional view, for the purpose of allowing for the expansion of the pockets to hold a greater or a less number'of tariffs, for which the file is especially adapted. Each pocket is provided with accordion edges and bottom to allow for expansion of the same, and the front sheet D of each pocket has a tongue D integral with or secured thereto, each tongue be ing designed to engage underneath a strap E, which is fastened upon the sheet F, forming the back of the pocket, thereby providing means for securely holding the pocket closed. In order to identify the various pockets, we provide a series of index-tabs .K, which are fastened to the outer swinging edge of each pocket in any suitable manner.
By the provision of a tariff-holding file made in accordance with our invention it will be seen that a simple and efficient device is provided in which provision is made forthe expansion of the various pockets and so arranged that access may be readily'had to any one of the pockets through the medium of the tabs, which also serve as straps to allow the various pockets to be readily turned.
While we have shown a particular construction oftariff-sheet-holding file illustrating our invention,'it will be understood that we do not confine our invention to the particular construction shown, as the same may vary in different ways and be made of various kinds of material without in any way departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A railroad-tariff file comprising in combination with suitable hinged covers, a series of file holding-pockets arranged in pairs and bound to a suitable backing between the covers, each of said pockets having a strap upon the front face thereof, and a loop upon the front face of the back of the pocket adapted to be engaged by said strap, as set forth.
2. A railroad-tariff file comprising in combination With suitable hinged covers, a series of pockets, the backs of which are formed of a suitable sheet, the sheets forming the backs of the pockets being stitched to a backing intermediate the covers, with spaces intervening between the stitching, each pocket having accordion ends and bottom and having an opening along its inner edge, a strap secured to each front of the pocket, a loop secured to the front face of the back of each pocket and beyond the open edge of the pocket and adapt- 5 ed to receive said strap, whereby the pocket may be held closed, and a series of index-tabs carried by the pockets, as set forth.
In testimony whereof We hereunto affix our signatures in presence of tWo Witnesses.
BENOIT BRIARD. GEORGE MICHAEL BLEH.
