Be it known that we, RALPH @WRIGHT and DAVIDK-WADE, citizens of the United States,

residing at McPherson, in the county of Mc- Pherson and State of Kansas, have inventedy thereof, will appear in the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a box applied to a panel. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the box and panel, and Fig. 3

is across-sectional view through the box and panel.

The box comprises a bottom plate l, sid

flanges 2 and 3, and end liangesl and 5. Theside iianges are provided with longitudinallydisposed exterior grooves 6, which are arranged intermediate the top and bottom edges of the side flanges 2 and 3. On the top edge of one of the end flanges is an inwardly-disposed guard-tongue 7, Vwhich is substantially on the same plane as the top edge of the box; but this tongue has a slight yielding tendency, permitting it to abut against the under side of the lidy and hold it in engagement with the box. The lid consists of a top plate having side lianges 8 and 8', which are provided with inturned edges for engagement with the grooves 6, which serve as guides therefor. Inasmuch as the walls of the grooves are inclined, they will have a tendency to draw the top plate of the lid down tight upon the edges of the box, so that the frictional contact will have a tendency. to hold it in position. A lip 9 is outwardly disposed .on the top plate of the lid and in the same plane as the adjacent 'portion thereof,l so as to be engaged by the tongue 7, so that dust and other foreign matter will `be excluded from the box, and at the same time the tongue will bear against the lid, so as to hold the same o n the box. At the endof the lid opposite to the lip 9 is a depending lange 10, disposed at a right angle to the top plate of the lid and constituting a finger-piece to be engaged by the nail of the linger, so as to move the lid, and as a stop to llimit the movement of the lid in a forward direction. The iiange 10 normally lies Hush with the end of the box, the free end only being spaced away from the box to permit the insertion of the linger-nail.

What we claim is- 1. The combination with a panel having an opening, of a box provided with a groove for engagement with the edges of an opening,

.and a Sliding lid engaging the groove and having a terminal depending flange projecting into a plane below the groove and held by the edges of the opening in the panel to prevent opening of the lid.

2. The combination with a panel having an opening, of a box provided with a groove for engagement with the edges of the opening, and means for contact with the edges of the opening to prevent movement of the lid when in the opening.

' 3. A box comprising aV bottom having side and end anges, the side flanges being provided with longitudinal grooves intermediate the top and bottom edges thereof, an inwardlydisposed lip at o ne end of the box, and a lid IOO for the box comprising a top plate having -side flanges to overlap the side flanges of the box and having inturnecl edges for engagement with the groove, a projecting lip on the top plete and on the same plane as the adjacent portion of the plate to overlap the inwardly-disposed flange on the box, and an engaging device carried by the lid to permit movement of the box.

4. A box having at one end, at its uppei1 edge, an inwardly-extending tongue, and a slidable cover overlapping und liietionnlly engaging said tongue.
