JOHN H. BEE AND THOMAS B. CAMPBELL, JR., OF NEW KENSINGTON, PENNSYLVANTA.
SAFETY WATCH-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 759,851, dated May 1'7, 1904.
Application iilerl July 13, 1901.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN H. BEE and THOMAS B. CAMPBELL Jr., citizens of the United States, residing at New Kensington, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Safety fateli-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention is an improvement in safety watch-holders, and relates particularly to an improvement in a similar device iiled by us J une 2, 1900, and allowed February 13, 1901, Serial No. 18,898.
` The object of our present invention is to provide a holder which shall be as effective in its purpose, but much simpler' in construction, and therefore can be manufactured and put upon the market at a greatly-reduced price.
With this object in View our invention will be fully described in the following specification, and pointed out in the claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure l shows our improvement as applied to a pocket of a vest, portions of the garment being broken out to more clearly show the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan of the same; and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the holder, showing one of the retainingbuttons detached.
In carrying out our present invention we employ the same spring back or body plate A as that shown in our application previously referred to and also having the studs B, which are designed to be inserted through the inner portion of the pocket of the garment and held in place by the button C. Of course it will be understood that the studs are threaded and adapted to operate in threaded sockets formed in the buttons. One end of the plate A terminates in a short flat portion that is adapted to lie fiat against the lining of the pocket; but the opposite end is bent outwardly at a and carried back substantially parallel with` and Serial No. 68,204. (No model.)
for a portion of the length of the body A, forming a clamping-arm A, which terminates in a spherical head a', which permits of an easy insertion or removal of the stem of a watch from between the two sections. This construction forms a bow portion at a, and the shorter member or arm A curves outwardly adjacent this bow portion and then curves gradually slightly inward for a short distance. Each section is provided with an outwardly-curved portion of and a3, respectively, forming practically a circle in which the stem of the watch is designed to iit and preventing to a small degree the liability of the watch slipping.
The back plate of the holder may be covered with chamois-skin or other non-abrasive material to prevent scratching or defaeing of the watch.
From the foregoing it will be seen that we provide an exceedingly simple construction which we have found from experience to be equally as effective as our former holder and can be manufactured at a greatly -reduced cost.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-M A safety watch-holder comprising a U- shaped plate having a longer and a shorter member, the longermember being curved outwardly intermediate its ends, the shorter member being curved outwardly adjacent the bow portion and also opposite the curved portion of the longer member, a spherical head eccentrically carried by the free end of the shorter member, a non-abrasive covering on the longer member, andA means for attaching said member to a garment.
