PATENT OFFICE.
BEAD-LOOM...
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent no. 758.376, dated April 26, 1904..- Ap lication fil d November 25, 1903- erial No. 182,615. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern: 7 Y
- Be it known that I, HENRYBERNARD MEEs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Nadeau, in the county of Jackson and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Bead-Loom, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in bead-looms, and is par ticularly adapted for holding the threads upon which the beads are to be strung.
In carrying out my invention I have particnlarly in view the provision of a small loom which will h old the warp-threads apart in such manner that they may be stretched taut and equal distances apart, thereby obviating the possibility of the threads loosening and spoiling the work.
Another object of my invention is to provide a clamping device for holding a portion of the beadwork that has been completed, so that the warp-threads upon which the beads are to be strung may be held in a convenient position for the operator.
A further object of my invention is to provide a loom of the character described which will embody the essential and desired features of simplicity, durability, convenience, and inexpensiveness.
With the above objects and others of a like nature in view my invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as is described in this specification, delineated in the accompanying drawings,'and set forth inthe appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
near the end portions thereof, are standards or supports 6 6 7 7, said standards in the present instance being preferably substantially triangular in form. Journaled in the upper end of each set of standards is arod 8, having coiled about the same a spiral spring 9. These springs, it will be observed, lie between the standards, and the coils of the same may be tightened-that is to say, the coils may be brought into contact or permitted to expandthrough the medium of a thumb-nut 10, threaded upon one end of the rod, each rod being provided with one of said thumb-nuts.
The warp-threads 6;, upon which the beads 5 are strung, are held between the'coils of the springs, as is clearly seen in Fig. 1that is to say, the threads are stretched. in parallelism from one spring to the other, and when the edges of the threads have been passed between the coils of the springs the latter may be tightened, as heretofore stated, by turning the thumb-nuts.
Inorder to retain or hold the portion of the beadwork which has been inishedsuch,
for instance, as the part 0, (shown in Fig. 1)- I have provided a clamp in the form of a crank-rod 11, journaled in the lower portion of the standards 7 7, said rod being designed to be turned through the medium of the handle portion 12, so that the beadwork may be securely clamped between said rod and the base-board 5, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and manner of employing my improved loom will be readily apparent.
The threads are arranged or secured in the loom in the manner shown in Fig. 1, and the heads are threaded upon the same to form improved loom which will be readily apparent to those familiar with a device of this character, so it is unnecessary to dwell upon the same in detail.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. Aloom comprising a base portion, standards secured thereto, means carried by said standards for retaining threads upon which the beads are to be strung, and a clampingrod journaled in certain of said standards and designed to clamp the finished beadwork to the base, substantially as set forth.
2. The loom herein described, comprising a base portion, standards extending upward from said base portion, rods carried by and 'the base, substantially as set forth.
3. A loom comprising a base or support, standards projecting therefrom and adapted at their free ends to be drawn together by a tightening means, a rod extending between the free ends of the standards and projecting through and beyond one of the standards and having such projection or extension threaded, a nut on the threaded extension and a coilspring on the rod between the standards, substantially as set forthl i 4:. The combination in a loom with a 'base portion or support, and means above the same for retaining threads upon which to string beads, of a clamp below the thread-retaining means and consisting of a crank-rod having its arms j ournaled, and its connecting or wrist portion arranged. to hold the finished work, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY BERNARD MEES.
