EUGEN NovAK, or SZABADKA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY, ASSIGNOI t or ONE- HALF TO EUGEN HoRvATH, or BUDAPEST, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
COMBINED KNUCKLE-DUSTER AND REVOLVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 756,182, dated March 29, 1904.
To all whom it may concern.-
' ried in the pocket without inconvenience in walking and is adapted to be used as a heavy and efiicient knuckle-duster as well as a five or six chambered revolver, so as to afford a very satisfactory means of self-defense. If desired, the weapon may also be provided with a whistle.
Most of the pocket weapons hitherto used, owing to their small size, were diflicult to handle and of very littleuse in a serious case.
The combination of a knuckle-duster with a revolver is not new in' itself; but the construction hitherto suggested had the disadvantage that the weapon was not safe to be handled, as the knuckle-duster proper andrthe revolver constituted two detachable hinged parts, which in locked position represented a knuckle-duster while forming in their open positiona revolver the short thick stock of which was constituted by the rings. All these drawbacks are obviated by the device forming the subjectof the present invention, which affords an easily-handled pocket weapon of small size and yet reliable in operation.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of the weapon; Fig. 2, an elevation; Fig. 3, a section; Fig. 4, a front view.
The part 1' of the weapon, preferably made of cast-steel, forms the revolver-barrel and is arranged between the rings 2 of the knuckleduster. The cylinder 3 of the revolver turns about the axle 4, which by means of its hooked end 4' may be pulled out, so as to enable the cylinder to be removed. After the insertion of the cylinder and the axle 4 the hook 4 is brought into engagement with a notch in the revolver-barrel, whereby the axle 4 is secured against accidentally falling out. The trigger 5 of the revolver bears, underthe influence of Application filed January 6, 1903.
Serial No. 138,059. (No model.)
a spring well known in revolver mechanism,
against a projecting part of the casing l.
The cylinder is covered by a hinged cover 6, which may be secured in its closed position by a catch or look 7 The portion 8 of the ,-device opposite to the trigger 5 may be formed into a whistle.
' .The handle of the knuckle-duster, which serves for receiving the well-known revolver mechanism, may be made of wood, caoutchouc, orany other compressed material.
In using the revolver knuckle-duster the cover 6 is first opened, the axle 4 pulled out, then the cylinder is removed, and after the insertion of the'cartridges is replaced. The device is to be held or seized in such a manner that its barrel 1 comes between the second and third. fingers, while the thumb bears against the trigger. 'In this position the device may be used for heavy blows as'well as a revolver, the firing being eflected by means of the thumb.
The described device afiords a much tighter grip than the pocket weapons hitherto used, more especially the revolver knuckle-dusters hitherto employed, so that shooting at a-venture might with this weapon prove more effective than direct aiming with another weapon. 7
The outer shape of the device may be varied according to circumstances, and more than two rings might be used.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim isg ,1. A combined revolver and knuckle-duster, comprising a body portion made to fit the hand, rings on the front thereof, a barrel arranged between said rings, a cylinderhaving its axis arranged parallel to the axis of the barrel and operating means for said cylinder, said rings and barrel forming the striking part of the duster, substantially as described.
2. A combined revolver and knuckle-duster, comprising a barrel,'rings on opposite sides thereof, a palm portion on the opposite side of said rings and barrel, a portion extending laterally from saidpalm portion, a trigger in said lateral portion, said trigger being operated by the thumb and revolver mechanism in the said portions, substantially as described.
3. In a combined revolver and knuckleduster,a barrel, rings on opposite sides thereof, a palm portion in rear of said rings and barrel, a thumb portion extending laterally from said palm portion and a portion 8 opposite to the thumb portion and also extending laterally ream
