u Be it known that I, 'ENOGH EfSjrUB-BS, .of WestyElkton, in Preble county, Ohio, have invented a neu' and I useful Improvement in4 Bolt-Fastenings, which I denominate o. Safety-Bolt and I do hereby declare thzitithe following is u full und ekac't description thereof, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon. c l

The projection on the outer and upper end of key il is designed for the thumb of a person to conveniently move the key down to unfasten the bolt. 'The spring'e, which rests against the doge, is fstened to `the clasp at one en d, and the dog or tumbler a has' a, rocking action when moved by the key d, or depressedlbythe spring e. The action of -the key is to -be given by the hund of ulperson inside the house. v

The advantage of placing the bolt-fastening'in the clasp, insteud'of attaching it to 'the lock, as has been done, is to make access to it from outside the house-much more .diiiicultl The door-jumb to whichithe clasp' is nlwuys attached, being always' more rni and thicker thenthe door of the house, bnrglurs cannot so easily endlreadily remove the l bclt-fustening when so placed, as when-in immediate connection with the door-lock.

Lock-bolts have heretofore'been fastened, after locking,-by means of a. lever, with a cum or projection in the upper edge of thel-ock, but these devices ur'e so constructed Vas to beunfsstened by means-,of eny instrument which'wll penetrate the thickness of a. door, rlfhe clasp'wth the holtfasteningin1ay be nsed to secure thebolts of locks, or .bolts used separately from locks, and vit may be substituted for the ordinary clasp,r1 without any 4 alteration of the lock or bolt, other than tha-t of forming a. recess or notch in' the side of the bolt near its end,
