To aZZ whom it may concern/. Be it known that I, PERRY M. IRISH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Booneville, in

the county of Mendocino and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Imp'rovements'in Drag-Saw Handles, of whichthe merits thereof and also to acquire a knowl- 1 edge of the details of construction of the means for efiecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and drawings hereto attached.

While the essential and characteristic feav tures of the invention are susceptible of modification, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which' Figure 1 is a side View of a handle embodying the invention. Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

The handle-frame l is provided at one end with a handle-clamp and at the opposite end with saw-clamping devices and its body portion is elongated and provided with acentral longitudinal opening 2, intersected by transverse openings 3, ldcated near the extremities of the said frame and adapted to receive nuts 4,bymeans of which the terminal clam p devices are tightened and loosened. The hand lc-clamp comprises a fixed jaw 5 and a movable jaw- 6, provided with a stem 7, loosely fitted in an end portion of the longitudinal opening 2 and thread-ed into the ad jacent nut 4, by means of which the jaw 6 is moved in or out, according as the handle 8 is to be clamped or released.

The-handle 8 is preferably of wood and of a length to admit of easy manipulation of the saw and is provided at a-point between its ends with an opening for reception of the stem 7 which-in conjunction with the jaws 5 and 6 secure the handle against casual displacement. The handle may be removed fromthe frame by turning the nut so as to release the stem 7, after which the jaw 6 may be drawn outward and the handle disconnected from the frame. The opposite end of the handleframe is preferably made circular and provided in its outer face with a series of radial grooves 9 for cooperation with oppositely-d isposedcogs 10 to secure the saw-blade-ll in the required position with reference to the fastening 15, passed through corresponding openings formed in the separated parts of the A groove 16 is formed in thecouter face of the saw end to receive the extremity of the saw-blade, whereby the latter is held in fixed relation with reference to the saw end. By having the clamping devices at opposite ends of the handle-frame independent of each other either one may be operated without interfering with the, other, which is of material advantage, and, moreover, repairs may be more chl-nnly made than if both sets of clamps cooperated with a part common to each. The saw end is of such construction as to admit of it being fitted to the saw-blade with either end pointing toward the toothed edge, and the handle may be fitted to the handle-clamp by being inserted between the jaws of either end. I

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is 1. A handle for drag-saws comprising a handle-frame, a handle-clamp at one end and saw-clamp devices at the opposite end of'said frame, and independent means applied to the handle-frame for operating the said clamp devices, substantially as set forth.

2. In a handle for drag-saws comprising a handle-frame having a longitudinal opening and intersecting transverse openings, nuts fitted into the said transverse openings, and clamp devices at opposite ends of the handleframe, each comprising a stem loosely fitted into an end portion of said longitudinal opening and making screw-thread connection with the respective cooperating nuts, substantially as set forth.

3. In a handle for drag-saws, a handle-frame having a longitudinal opening and an intersecting transverse opening and provided at one end with a fixed jaw, a handle having an opening, a movable jaw provided with a stem passed through the opening of the handle into the opening of the handle-frame, and a nut located in the transverse opening of said handleframe and having screw-thread connection with the said stem of the movable jaw, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

4. In combination, a handle-frame provided at one end with an enlargement formed in its cogs to interlock with the grooves atthe end of the handle-frame, substantially as set forth. In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
