SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 752,880, dated February 23, 1904. Application filed July 29, 1903. Serial No. 167,458. (No model.)

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Anson J BACON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hallowell, in the county of Kennebec and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Boxes, of which the following is a specification,reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention has for its object to provide a new and improved lunch-box and so arranged that its parts may be easily disconnected and folded together in the smallest space possible, and being provided with a hasp which will lock the box when its parts are opened and after the same has been filled and which will also lock the parts together when they have been disconnected and closed. The box is preferably made oblong, so that the sides, which are each half the length of the other sides, will fold within the same without waste of space. Its novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts will be substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a perspective of my box as it will look when the parts are opened and before attaching. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same with the parts opened and attached and the cover closed and locked. Fig. 3 is a central transverse section of said box when the parts are closed and locked together. Fig. 4 is a back vertical view showing part of the side and back locking device.

In the drawings, n represents the front side of the box; 6, the bottom of the box, which is hinged to the front side a by the hinge 6; c, the back side of the box, which is hinged to the bottom of the box 6 by the hinge a.

(Z is the cover of the box, which is hinged to the back side a by the hinge d, and e and f are respectively the two end or binding sides, which are each hinged to the front side a and so constructed that when the boxs sides are arranged together that the end sides 6 and f will rest upon the bottom'side Z1 and against the back side 0, each preferably being less than one-half the length of the side a, so that they will fold within the parts a and b when the parts are folded, as when it is desired-that the box he carried in a pocket or small space. The end side 6 has a lip g, which fits within the cut-away portion j of the back side 0 and into the aperture 6, securely locking the side 6 to the sides cand 6, while the opposite end side f has a similar lip It, which is inserted in the cut-away portion j and aperture '21, securely locking the side f to the sides 0 and b. By examining Figs. 1 and 2 it will be clearly seen that the box is then complete, and when the cover is lowered upon the sides a'complete lunch-box is made.

A handle Z is attached to the upper side of the lid or cover cl for carrying the box, and a hasp 1% is pivoted by the pins 1% m to the lug 25, which is securely fastened by rivets, screws, tacks, or other means to the upper side of the lid or cover cl. This hasp k is provided with an aperture n for receiving the locking-pin r, pivotally attached to the outer part of the front side a, when the box is desired to be locked. The hasp is is further provided with an arm 10, pivotally connected, as at 0, which arm p is provided with an operture q for receiving the locking-pin r for securing and locking the parts together when the parts are folded one upon another, as shown in Fig. 3.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A lunch-box having a bottom side, a front side and a back side each hinged to opposite edges of the bottom side, a locking-pin pivotally attached to the upper front side, end sides hinged to the front side, each of the end sides having rigid locking-lips for locking the back side, apertures in the back side for receiving the locking-lips, a top side hinged. to the back side and provided with a ha'sp having one aperture n for receiving the locking-pin when the sides are opened and formed into a box, and anothersimilar aperture 4 for receiving the same locking-pin when the parts of the box are folded together and the front side of the box forms the bottomof the folded parts, substantially as shown and described.
