PATENT OEEICE.
ARTHUR OAHN, JACOB (JAHN, AND ARTHUR R. MOSLER, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.; SAID MOSLER ASSIGNOR TO SAID ARTHUR OAHN AND JACOB OAHN.
SIGN-DISPLAY DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 751,832, dated February 9, 1904.
Application filed October 13,1903.
To @ZZ whom, it n2/ay 0070067177,.-
Beit known that we, ARTHUR CAHN, J Aeon CAI-IN, and ARTHUR R. MosLER, citizens of the United States, and residents of the borough of Manhattan, in the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sign-Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in sign-display devices; and it has for its object to provide a sign-display device which is more particularly applicable for use in connection with show-cases in which the glass panels are secured together without the use of parting strips.
A further object is to provide a device of the above character in which the holder for the sign may be adjusted to suit signs of different widths and to adjust the sign with respect to the case or other support for the device.
A practical embodiment of our invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents the sign-display device in front elevation, the same being applied to the top of a glass show-case. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is an edge view. Fig. 4 is a detail vertical section. Fig. 5 is a detail view showing a modified form of bracket in front elevation; and Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the same, a portion of the bracket being broken away to more clearly show the connecting-rods engagement with the bracket.
The glass show case herein represented comprises a top panel 1 and four side panels 2, 8, 4, and 5, secured tothe top panel by interior fastening devices 6. The sign-display holder (represented in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive) comprises two brackets, a connecting-rod 7, and sign-holders 8 and 9. Each of the brackets comprises a horizontal section 10, which projects inwardly from a vertical spring-plate 11, which springf plate is provided at its ends with angle-clips 12 13, fitted to embrace the top edge along one side of the show-case or other support. These angle clips may be lined with felt 14, if so desired, to prevent Serial No. 176,822. (No model.)
the metal of the bracket from engaging the glass panels of the show-case. The connecting-rod 7 is provided at one end with a suitable handle 15 and at its other end with a screwthreaded portion 16. This rod 7 is fitted to pass freely through the horizontal portion 10 of one of the brackets, and its end 16 is fitted to have a screw-threaded engagement with a stationary nut 17, carried by the horizontal portion 10 of the opposite bracket. These two brackets may thus be brought into clamping engagement with the top of the show-case or other support by screwing up the connecting-rod 7. The two sign-holders 8 and 9 are provided with sign -receiving grooves 18 19, preferably by forming the holders of U shape in cross f section.' The bases of the holders 8 and 9 are adjustably secured to the horizontal portions 10 of the two brackets by means of set-screws 2O 21.
'In the present instance we have shown a card-sign 22 inserted between the holders 8 and 9, which card-sign is provided along' its bottom with a bar 23 and along' its sides with bars 24 25, which fit the grooves 18 19 of the holders, so that the card-sign may be held against movement therein. Above the cardsign we have shown an ornamental top piece 26, which may be of the same width at its ends as the grooves 18 19 in the holders.
1n Figs. 5 and 6 we have shown the display device adapted for extending diagonally across the show-case or other support instead of directly across, as shown in the other gures. In this case the plate which supports the inwardly-extended horizontal portion 10 is formed into two branches 27 28, arranged to extend around one of the vertical meeting edges of the side panels of the show-case or other support. In all other respects this device is quite similar to that hereinabove described.
The spring-plate 11 is preferably bowed outwardly away from the show-case or other support, so as to enable the two brackets to be brought into snug and frictional engagement with the opposite sides of the case or other support.
The connecting-rod 7 may be of sufficient length to render the brackets adjustable to show-cases and supports of varying sizes, and the holders may be adjusted to signs oi' different widths.
What we claim is- 1. A sign-display device comprising two brackets fitted to engage a show-case or other support, a sign-holder carried by each bracket and means for connecting the brackets.
2. A sign-display device comprising two brackets tted to engage a show-case or other support, a sign-holder carried by each of the brackets and means connecting the brackets lfor drawing them into clamping engagement with their support. f
3. A sign-display device comprising two brackets tted to engage a show-case or other support, means for connecting the brackets, a sign-holder carried by each of the brackets and means for adjusting one of the sign-holders on its bracket toward and away from the other sign-holder.
4. A sign-display device comprising two brackets fitted to engage a show-case or other support, a sign-holder carried by each of the brackets and a connecting-rod engaging one bracket and having a screw-threaded engagement with the other bracket for drawing the brackets into clamping engagement with their support.
5. A sign-display device comprising two brackets each consisting of a horizontal portion, a plate and clips carried by the plate for engaging the support, means engaging the horizontal portions for drawing the brackets into clamping engagement with the support and a sign-holder carried by the horizontal portion of each of the brackets.
6. A sign-display device comprising two brackets, means for connecting them and signholders carried thereby, each bracket comprising a horizontal portion and a spring-plate having clips at its opposite ends arranged to engage a support.
7. A sign-display device comprising two brackets, each of the brackets having a springplate arranged to engage a show-case or other support, means connecting the brackets for drawing them into clamping engagement with the support and a sign-holder carried by each of the brackets.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our invention We have signed our names, in presence of two witnesses, this 9th day of Oc-A tober, 1903.
