Description
UNITED STATES Patented February 2, 1904.
JOSEPH MARIE AUGUSTIN DEYDIER, OF NYONS, FRANCE.
POOKET-SPITTOON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 751,266, dated February 2, 1904.
7 Application filed May 25, 1903. Serial No. 158,748. (No model.)
I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH MARIE AUeUs'rIN DEYDIER, a citizen of the French Republic, anda resident of Nyons, Drome, France, have invented a certain new and useful Pocket- Spittoon, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the present invention is a spitton' of indie-rubber intendedto be hidden in a pocket-handkerchief.
This spittoon, of strong and flexible indiarubber, is in the shape of an elongated purse and is furnished with a hermetic clasp of inoxidable metal. It is filled to about threefourths its capacity with an absorbing substance and is fastened in a somewhat large sheath made from a material similar to that of the handkerchief and sewed in the middle of the latter. 7
In the accompanying drawing this device is shown in front elevation attached to a handkerchief, but with the pocket-piece shown in dotted lines and part broken away.
C represents the strong and flexible indiarubber spittoon furnished with a hermetic clasp F, made of an inoxidable metal provided with two buttons B. A piece of tissue similar to the handkerchief, cut out as shown in the dotted lines at D, is placed and sewed upon the middle of the handkerchief E, with which it forms the sheath for the spittoon, entirely hiding the same. The spittoon, three parts full of very fine sawdust or like powder, as shown at A, is attached by the buttons B to the sheath in which two corresponding buttonholes have for this purpose been provided.
When it is necessary to use the spittoon, it
.into the handkerchief.
is opened without being withdrawnfrom its sheath and is spat into as if one were spitting The spittoon is then closed and squeezed in all directions in order to cause the substance to absorb the sputa while refolding andcreasing the handkerchief, as usual, before returning it to the pocket.
Forcleaning the spittoon it is withdrawn from the sheath and the powder emptied into the fire. The spittoon is then washed in a liquid disinfectant, dried, refilled with absorbing substance, and it is replaced in the sheath ready for use. I
Having now fully described my said invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A handkerchief formed OI suitablematerial, having a piece of the same material attached thereto so as to form a pocket, in combination with an india-rubber spittoon provided with an inoxidizable metallic closure, said spittoon being adapted to be normally inclosed by said pocket.
2. A handkerchief formed of suitable material having a piece of the same material attached thereto so as to form a pocket, in combination with an india-rubber spittoon provided with an inoxidizable metallic closure, and an absorbent substance partially filling said spittoon, said spittoon being adapted to be normally inclosed by said pocket.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH MARIE AUGUSTIN DEYDIER. Witnesses:
