UNITED STATES l atented February 2, 1904.
JULIUS RUSS, or NEW YORK, N. Y; i
DISPLAY DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. '7 51,109, dated February 2, 1904. Application filed October 27, 1903. Serial No. 178,683. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that I, JULIUS Russ, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide improved means for displaying shoes in cases made for that purpose, and particularly the form of display-cases usually employed for advertising or showing shoes for sale.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of adisplay-case made according to my invention with part thereof broken away; Fig. 2, a cross-section thereof; Fig. 3, a plan view of a detail of the construction, and Fig. 4: a section on the line 4 i of Fig. 3.
In the practice of my invention as shown in the drawings I provide a case a, which com rises four side members a each of which consists of suitable frames provided with panels (/1 of glass or other transparent material. The case a is also preferably provided with corner-posts b, which serve to strengthen the same and to which the sides of the side frames are secured, and one of said side frames is hinged at c and provided at its opposite side with any suitable catch 0 and said side frame thus forms a door for the case.
Secured in the corner-posts b are eyebolts d, and suspended therefrom and arranged vertically one over another and at suitable intervals are suspending frames 6, three of which are shown in Fig. 1. The suspending frames 6 consist of central members 6 composed, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, of separate plates 6 placed one above another and secured together, and between which are secured radial arms 6 eight of which are employed in the form of construction shown. In practice the plates 0 are pressed together in such a manner as to lock the arms 6 between the same, as clearly shown in the drawings, and said plates 6 maybe riveted or otherwise fastened together, if desired. Four of the arms 6 extend diagonally across the case and are provided at their ends with hook members 6, which are adapted to engage the eyebolts (Z, and the other radial arms 6 are shorter than those which engage the eyebolts d, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2, and all of said radial arms are provided with suspending devices e, which in the form of construction shown consist of rings suspended from loops formed in said radial arms. In the form of construction shown each of the radial arms is provided with one of the suspending devices 6, and these are all arranged in a circle, and any suitable means may be provided for connecting the shoes with the suspending devices 6.
Although I have shown and described my display-case as designed particularly for displaying shoes, it will be apparent that other articles of merchandise may be similarly displayed therein, and my invention is in no way limited to the details of the construction of the case, and various changes therein and 'modifications thereof may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A display-case provided with transparent sides and the corners of which are provided with attaching devices, and suspending frames connected with said attaching devices and comprising a central member and radial arms connected therewith four of which are adapted to be detachably connected with said attaching devices, substantially as shown and described.
2. A display-case provided with transparent sides and the corners of which are provided with attaching devices, and suspending frames connected with said attaching devices and comprising a central member and radial arms my invention I have signed my name, in presconnected therewith four of which are adapted ence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 26th day to be detachably connected with said attachof October, 1903.
ing devices, and suspending devices connected JULIUS RUSS. 5 with said radial arms, substantially as shown Witnesses:
and described. Isnaon GREERFELD,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as MORRIS KLEIN.
