PATENT OFFICE.
KNUT NILSON, OF DUIJUTH, MINNESOTA.
NECK-YOKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 750,997, dated February 2, 1904.
Application filed March 30, 1903.
To all 2071/0711, it may concern:
Be it known that I, KNUT NILSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yokes and Means for Securing the Same; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to neck-yokes and means for securing the same to vehicles.
It consists, in combination with a ferrule adapted to be secured upon the free end of the tongue of a vehicle, of a neck-yoke journaled upon said ferrule and a cap for securing said yoke upon the ferrule.
It also consists of certain other constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section through my said invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of a modified construction of said invention, showing the ferrule partly broken away.
In the drawings, l is a ferrule adapted to be secured upon the tip of a wagon pole or tongue, which ferrule has formed thereon intermediate of its ends an external annular rib 2, adapted to operate as a stop to limit the rearward movement of a neck-yoke 3, journaled upon said ferrule. Said yoke is further retained upon said ferrule'by a removable cap 4, mounted upon the outward end of said ferrule and secured thereto by a thumb-screw projected through the end of said cap and engaging a threaded aperture in the end of said ferrule. Said cap also has preferably formed thereon an annular rib at the end thereof adjoining said yoke, which rib may, however, be omitted. In the modified form of said invention (shown in Fig. 3) antirattling washers are interposed between said yoke and said cap, one of which washers is preferably of metal, as 7, and the other of leather or rubber, as 8, which rubber washer will take Serial No. 150,094. (No model.)
up the excess play between said parts. It is obvious that in my said construction the neckyoke may be easily removed and in operation is securely journaled upon said ferrule.
I/Vhile I have described certain details of construction, it is obvious that they may be slightly modified in some particulars without departing from the spirit and scope of my said invention.
Having now described my invention, what Iclaim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. In a neck-yoke and means for securing the same, the combination with a ferrule, adapted to be secured to the free end of the tongue of a vehicle, and having a stop formed thereon intermediate of its ends, of a neckyoke journaled thereon forward of said stop, and a terminal cap mounted on said ferrule and secured thereto and adapted to retain said yoke upon said ferrule, substantially as described.
2.v In a neck-yoke and means for securing the same, the combination with a ferrule, adapted to be mounted upon, and secured to the free end of the tongue of a vehicle, and having a stop formed thereon intermediate of its ends, of a neck-yoke journaled upon said ferrule forward of said stop, a terminal yokeretaining cap mounted upon said ferrule, forward of said yoke, and means for adjustably securing said cap to said ferrule, substantially as described.
3. In a neck-yoke and means for securing antirattling means journaled on said ferrule between said adjustable means and said yoke, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name in presence of two witnesses.
KNU T NILSON.
