PE'IEHS. PHOTOJ-ITHOGMPHER, WASHIN UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
WILLIAM M. CURRY, OF MORNING SUN, OHIO.
THlLL-COUPLING.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 230,617, dated August 3, 1880.
Application filed January '7, 1880.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. CURRY, of Morning Sun, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Thin-Couplings, which improvement is fully set forth in the following the clip shown in Letters Patent No. 222,021,
formerly issued to me. In said Letters Patent a clip was shown to be constructed in such a manner as to have two ears, and between those ears a seat, upon which the T-head of thill-iron rested. The clip was thus formed wholly of one piece, which is difficult, and hence costly, to manufacture.
This improvement consists in forming the clip of two parts, composed of, first, the clip proper or ears, to which the thill-iron is attached, and, second, the rest or seat upon which the T-head rests.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the clip, having the ears B B, with the perforations C, and the mouth D and groove E in the ear B.
F represents the yoke, having a forward extension, Gr, and a seat, H, to correspond with thelower edgeof the perforation G, upon which the T-head oithe thill-iron rests.
In all thill-couplings the irons wear out the ears B B, and thus render them useless, and especially is this the case when a rubber, K, or other form of spring is interposed between the thill-head and the clip A. The design, therefore, in having the seat H formed of the extension of'the yoke F is to cheapen the manufacture and to increase its durability when attached.
In Fig. 4 I show the principal form of the clip, which consists .in havingthe yoke F and ears B B cast orforged in one piece, and in forming the clip A,Fig.5,in one piece, having an aperture, J, through one side, for the insertion'of the spring K.
Either of the forms shown can be used, although the form shown in Fig. 4. is preferable.
Having described myinvention, whatI claim as new is- The combination of the yoke F, having the ears B B, provided with the apertures O, with the clip A, having on one limb the opening J for the reception of a spring, substantially'as and for thepurpose specified.
In testimony that I- claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of witnesses.
WILLIAM M.- CURRY.
.Witnesses:
JOHN A. MANN, BENJAMIN FOSTER.
