PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY FRANCIS KEIL, 'OF BRONXVILLE, NEW YORK.
HANDLE FOR VALVES, FAUCETS, PLUMBERS FITTINGS, a0.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 749,692, dated January 12, 1904.
Application filed June 27, 1903- To all whom/ it ntay concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY FRANCIS KEIL, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Bronxville, in the county of VVestchester and State of New York, certify that I have invented a certain new and useful Handle for Valves, Faucets, Plumbers Fittings, &c., of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to manual appliances for operating valve-stems or other devices used to control the flow of a liquid, vapor, or gas, &c., through a pipe, passage-way, outlet, or inlet in any form of containing vessel, and in particular to a handle for yalves, faucets, and plumbers fittings, the same being a continuation of my former application, Serial No. 138,996, filed July 14:, 1903; and it has for its object the provision of an appliance of the kind set forth, simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and which is efficient in practical use.
To attain the desired end, this my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and operation of parts herein set forth.
In order to enable my invention to be fully understo0d,'I will proceed to explain the same by reference to the drawings, which accompany and form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a plan view of a handle constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a view in detail, showing my handle-plate; and Fig. 3 is a view in section taken on the line 3 3, Fig. 1.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the views.
Referring particularly to the drawings, A denotes a flat plate stamped out from steel or other suitable material, so as to provide a plurality of radial arms or extensions to in my preferred construction, each terminating, preferably, in a shoulder a and a pin, lug, or projection 0 The pins (0 are then threaded and the interiorlythreaded knobs or balls B screwed up against the shoulders a.
When the plate A is stamped out, a perforation or orifice a is formed in the same, the outline of which is partly circular in contour,
Serial No. 163,446. (No model.)
as at a, and consisting in part of one or more rectilinear portions, as a A casting or metal tube D, which forms the body portion of my handle, is provided with a central bore d and a shoulder (Z slightly greater in thickness than the plate A and with a preferably concentric rim or edge (Z to hold a name plate, which edge is ordinarily spun out from an offset formed at the end of said tube. The bore (Z is drifted out in order to provide an angular and preferably square bore or orifice, as at 01 so as to conform to and register with any suitable valve-stem, &c. A portion of the outer face of the shoulder 65,
forming the hub of the tube D, is preferably filed or ground away, so as to conform to and register with the edge of the orifice a and after the plate A is applied to the tube D the shoulder d is ordinarily spun over the edge of the said plate, thereby holding the parts rigidly in position.
A preferably circular name -plate C is inserted in the rim or edge (Z so as to rest upon the interior shoulder of the same, and the said rim is then preferably spun inwardly in order to clasp the edge of the name-plate and hold the same in an immovable relation.
As it is evident that many changes in the construction, form, proportion, and relative arrangement of parts might be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, I would have it understood that I do not restrict myself to the particular construction and arrangement of parts shown and described, but that such changes and equivalents may be substituted therefor and that What I claim as my invention is 1. A handle for plumbers fittings consisting or extensions and provided with pins or pro- I jections and balls secured thereto, and ahollow body portion provided with an angular bore,
and means to secure the two together in a rigid relation. o
In testimony of the foregoing specification I do hereby sign the same, in the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, this 11th day of May, A. D. 1903.
HENRY FRANCIS KEIL.
