To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE \V. HALEY and JOHN T. BROWN, citizens ofthe United States, residing at ll ashington, in the Dlstrict of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing- Valves; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is an improvement in valves and has particular reference to a valve for receiving and dispensing a number of fluids of different characters.
An object of the invention is the provision of a valve member or plug adjustable in a casing and having novel means associated therewith for accurately determining the proper adjustment of the valve member to dispense any one of a number of difierent fluids, the sources of supply of which are connected to said casing.
Another object is the provision of a valve of this character which is simple in construction, easy to manufacture and effective in carrying out the purpose for which it is designed.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illus trating the invention, is shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the valve constructed in accordance with the invention.

The accompanying drawing illustrates what is now believed to be a preferred form of the invention, which comprises a cylindrical casing 5 closed at one end and having a head 6 at its other end. A plate 7 is welded or otherwise secured to the casing 5 and is provided with a series of alined openings 8 therein which register with similar openings 9 formed in the casing, said openings 8 being adapted to receive pipes (not shown) for feeding different fluids into the casing through the openings 9.

the interior of said casing 5 and is provided upon its outer end with a stem 11 having a handle 12 thereon. The valve member or plug is provided at intervals with annular grooves 13 for receiving packing rings 1 1 and is also provided with a central longitudinal passage 15 having an inlet opening 16 at its inner end which is adapted to register with any one of the openings -9 as the valve member is adjusted, said passage also having a screw threaded outlet opening 17 for receiving the screw threaded end of an outlet pipe 18. From this description it will be apparent that when the valve member is in the position shown in Fig. 2, the fluid will enter the middle opening 9 of the casing and pass through said valve member and out of the pipe 18. Should it be desired to dispense a fluid of a different character from the one entering the middle opening, the valve member may be adjusted longitudinally of the casing until the inlet opening 16 thereof registers with either one of the other openings 9 in the casing. It will also be apparent that the supply of fluid through the valve member may be cut off by simply rotating the valve member by means of the handle 12.
Means are provided in connection with the valve member for determining the proper adjustment thereof whereby to bring the inlet opening 16 in register with any one of the openings 9 and also for limiting the rotary movement of said valve memher when it is desired to shut off the supply. To this end there is provided an adjustment device generally indicated by the numeral 19 and consisting of a substantially rectangular frame 20 having a lateral extension 21 at one end having openings 22 therein for receiving suitable fasteners whereby the entire device may be attached to a support. At the end of the frame adjacent the eX- tension 21 the same is provided with openings 23 for receiving the screws or other fasteners for securing the device to the head 6 of the casing 5. The frame 20 is provided with a longitudinal slot 24 having its longitudinal edges provided at intervals with oppositely disposed notches or grooves 25 for receiving a guide pin 26 carried by the valve member 10 adjacent the outer end thereof. When the inlet opening 16 of the valve member registers with the innermost opening 9 of the valve casing the pin 26 will be in horizontal alinement and engagement with one of the innermost notches and by rotating said valve member in the opposite direction it will be engaged in the opposite of said notches. When in engagement with either of the notches said pin will prevent any longitudinal movement of the valve member in the casing. Should it be desired to bring the inlet opening 16 into registration with either of the openings 9, the valve member is first rotated to disengage the pin 26 from the notch and is then pulled outwardly until said pin is directly opposite or in horizontal alinement with the notches 25 which correspond to the openings 9 with which it is desired to bring the opening 16 into registration. From the foregoing description it will be seen that the device 19 aids in the adjustment of the valve member to its proper positions and also looks said member against longitudinal movement in the valve casing when said member is rotated so that the pin 26 is engaged in any one of the notches 25.
What is claimed is 1. A valve of the class described, comprising a valve casing having a series of openings, a valve member rotatable in said casing and movable longitudinally thereof and having a passage adapted to communicate with any one of said series of openings, an adjustment device carried by said casing, and means carried by said valve member and associated with said adjustment device for determining the proper position of said valve member in order to cause the passage therein to communicate with any one of said series of openings said valve member being rotatable to engage said means with said adjustment device whereby to lock said valve member in closed position and against longitudinal movement in said casing.

A valve of the class described, comprising a valve casing having a series of openings, a valve member rotatable in said casing and movable longitudinally thereof and having a passage adapted to communicate with any one of said series of openings, an adjustment device including a frame secured to said valve casing and having a slot therein, the opposite edges of which are pro vided With oppositely disposed notches, and a projection carried by said valve member and movable in said slot and adapted to aline with certain of the oppositely disposed notches whereby to bring said passage in commimication with one of said series of openings.
3. A valve of the class described, comprising a valve casing having a series of openings, a valve member rotatable in said casing and movable longitudinally thereof and having a passage adapted to communicate with any one of said series of openings, an adjustment device including a frame secured to said valve casing and having a slot therein, the opposite edges of which are provided with oppositely disposed notches, and a projection carried by said valve member and movable in said slot and adapted to aline with certain of the oppositely disposed notches whereby to bring said passage in communication with one of said series of openings, said valve member being rotatable whereby to engage said. projection in any one of said notches to prevent longitudinal movement of the valve member in said casing.
