GLASS-DRAWING- APPARATUS.
To all "tr "ham it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. DE VAUGHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morgantown, in the county of Monongalia, State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glass- Drawing Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same.
This invention relates to valves and particularly to a valve for controlling the supply of air in the operation of drawing glass cylinders.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a valve of the character named which may be adjusted so as to vary the quantity of fluid passing therethrough and when used inconnection with a glass drawing apparatus will increase in the proper proportion the volume of air supplied to the interior of a cylinder as the drawing operation progresses.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Tn describing the invention in detail refer ence Will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference de note corresponding parts in the several views, and in which 4 Figure 1 is a vertical section of a valve constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2, a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3, a section on the line 6-6 of Fig. 1.
The improved valve is indicated generally at B and is shown as comprising a tubular casing 39 which is closed at one end by a threaded plug 40 and at its other end by a threaded cap 41, the latter being provided centrally with a tubular portion E, one section 42 of said portion being disposed exteriorly of the cap, while the other section 43 of said portion is disposed interiorly of the cap. The casing 39 is also provided with diametrically opposite threaded openings 44 and 45 respectively in which are engaged the ends of sections of the portion 31 of the pipe 26. The casing 39 is further provided with a partition 46 in which is formed a Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed August 28, 1912; Serial No. 717,542.
intake chamber 48 and an air outlet chamber 49. 7 j
It will be noted that the opening 47 is of less diameter than the openings in the ends of the casing 39 with which it registers and for this reason the position of the valve seat with respect to the casing 39 may be readily reversed as may likewise the position of the plug and the cap 41. The face of the valve seat F adjacent the cap 41 is recessed as at 50, while the face of said valve seat adjacent the plug40 is recessed as at 51.
Projecting from the valve seat F at the bottom of the recess 51 and into the latter are screws 52 whichengage respectively in elongated slots53 of a disk 54whereby said diskis secured to the bottom wall of the recess 51 in a manner that will permit same being adjusted eccentrically with respect to the valve seat F. The valve seat F is provided within the limits of the recesses 50 and 51 with a concentrically disposed arcuate slot 52 the active area of which may be readily varied by adjusting the disk 54 eccentrically to said slot as will be obvious.
Rotatably seated in the recess 50 is a valve head 55 which has formed on the side thereof adjacent the cap 41 a boss 56 provided with a transverse groove 57. This valve head 55 is also provided with a concentric slot 58 adapted to pass into and out of registration with the slot 52 in the valve seat F as said valve head is rotated in the recess 50. The section 42 of the tubular portion E is threaded interiorly as at 59 and engaged with the threads 59 is a bushing 60.
Rotatably mounted in the bushing 60 and the section 43 is a valve stem 61 the lower end of which is enlarged as at 62 and provided with a transverse rib G3 which engages in the groove 57 of the boss 56. The outer end of the stem 61 has fixed thereon a handle 38. The stem 61 is held in operative engagement with the valve head 55 by means of a spring 64 one end of which bears against the enlarged end 62 of the stem while the other end thereof bears against the inner side of the cap 41.
Detachably engaged over the section 12 of the tubular portion E of the cap 41 is a collar 65 whichcarries a set screw 66 adapted to, be manipulated so as to frictionally secure the collar 65 against disengagement fromthe section 42 of the tubular portion E. This collar 65 carries on itsouter end a graduated dial plate 67.
I be apparent that same can be moved to institute the opening thereof through the medium of the handle 38. The rotation of this handle 38 will in turn rotate the stem 61 and head '55. The rotation of the head 55 will constantly bring a greater portion of the slot'56 into registration with the slot 52 so that the volume of fluid passing through the valve will constantly increase as the valve is moved to full open position. The increase in the volume of fluid passing through the V valve as the latter is moved to open position may be readily governed by adjusting the disk 54 eccentrically of the valve seat F so as'to increase or decrease the active outlet chambers and including a valve seat provided with an arcuate slot tapering from one end to the other, a disk mounted on one side of the valve seat having arcuate slots therein eccentric to the disk, binding screws engaged through said slots respectively whereby the disk may be adjusted to vary the active area of the slot in the seat, a valve rotatable on the other side of said seat and provided with an arcuate slot adapted to register with the slot of the seat during rotation of the head, and means for rotating the head.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HARRY E. DE VAUGHN. lVitnesses HENRY T. BRIGHT, FRANCIS BOYLE.
