I0 IODEL.
. f INVENTOR BY Z ATTORNEY WITNESSES 4 V QM noqmasea UNITED STATES Patented January 12, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
lRONlNG-BCARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 749,525, dated January 12, 1904.
Application filed August 12, 1902.
To a, whom it may concern.-
board and its connections properly attached to a support. Fig. 2 is a bottom or under side view of the ironing-board proper. Fig. 3 is a section of the socket. Fig.4: is a view showing the arm located in the socket.
The present invention has relation to ironing-boards designed to be clamped to the corner of a table or like object; and it consists in the novel arrangement hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the ironing board proper, which is formed comparatively narrow and one end V-shapdd.
To the bottom or under side of the ironingboard 1 is securely attached in any convenient and well-known manner the support 2, which support is bent or curved, as illustrated in the drawings, and is so bent or curved to provide room for properly placing the sleeves of garments upon the board without interfering with its support. The bottom or lower portion of the support 2 is provided with the angular shank 3, which angular shank is designed to be seated into the correspondinglyangled socket 4:, formed in the upper side of the upper member 5 of the clamp 6.
The object and purpose of making the socket 4 angular and the shank 3 of a corresponding form is to prevent any horizontal rotation of the ironing-board proper.
For the purpose of supporting the shank 3, together with the different parts carried thereby, the socket 4c is closed at its bottom end, so
Serial No. 119,369. (No model.)
as to provide a support for the shank and at the same time prevent any lateral movement of the board.
In attaching ironing-boards to tables or like support it is desirable to change the position of the ironing-board for difierent kinds of work-that is to say, in some instances it is desirable to have the ironing-board parallel with the front or forward edge of the table, and at other times it is desirable to have the ironing-board at right angles to the front or forward edge of the table, and by providing the angular socket and shank I am enabled to provide for this convenience.
The support 2 is provided with two portionsan upper and lower portion said portions connected together with a curved part located at the rear end of the board. This is for the purpose of providing room to place the garment desired to be ironed properly upon the board.
The clamp 6 is provided with an ordinary thumb-screw 7, located and arranged so that its top or upper end will come upon the bottom or under side of the table or other object to which the ironing-board is to be attached.
The object and purpose of providing one end of the ironing-board V-shaped is to allow the board to be easily entered into the sleeves of garments.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of an ironing-board, a support consisting of two spaced portions, the upper one secured to the board, and the lower one provided with an integral downward-extended shank, said shank formed angular in cross-section, a clamp provided with a closed angular socket and the lower end of the shank detachably seated upon the bottom of the angular socket, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
