ATTACHING DEVICE FOR SANITARY NAPKINS.

` of Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and user ful Improvements in Attaching Devices for Sanitary Napkins; and'I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to a novel attaching device for sanitary napkins or other article of wearing-apparel which it may be desired to suspend or support from a bodygarment, such as a corset.

As shown in said drawings, A indicates a front, and B a rear, tab, through the medium of which an article, such as the napkin C, (shown in Fig. 1,) may be attached to the lower margin of a garment at the front and rear of the same. The front tab A is prof vided with a clasp `or safety attaching-pin D, by means of which it is secured to the garment. The rear tab B is provided with two like attaching-pins D D, used for the same purpose. The clasp or safety-pins D D are detachably connected with the tabs A and B moving and replacing the article to be sup-` pokrted, which latter is attached to the said ta s. .l

The clasp or safety-pins D have attached thereto the stud members Z of stud-and-socket attaching devices, the socket parts 0l of which are secured in the tabs A and B. rIhe pin D is shown as having the usual spring-coil (Z2 and clasp d3 and as having its portion which extends between the coil and clasp bent into a loop to which the stud member l is attached. The said stud and socket members d and CZr may be made in any familiar or desired form, the same being, as is usual in such devices, adapted for yielding engagement, so that they may be engaged with each other by pressing the stud into the socket with some force and separated by pulling them apart, the resilient en,- gagement of the parts holding them together so strongly as to require the exertion of some considerable force in separating them, so that they will not become accidentally disengaged or separated when in use.

The front tab A is provided with a single detachable pin D and is intended to be secured to the lower edge of the front of a corset at a point adjacent to the meeting edges of the same, as shown in Fig. l. The rear tab B is made of considerable width at its top margin, so that it may lextend across the opening or space between the laced rear edges of a corset, and the two pins D D with which it is provided are located at opposite ends of its upper margin, so that they may be secured to the lower margins of the two parts or halves of the corset near the rear edge of said parts or valves, as also shown in said Fig. 1. In the upper margin of said rear tab B is placed an elastic cord or strand B', which gives elasticity to the saidY upper edge, enabling it to adjust itself to the width of the space between the rear margins of the corset according to the tightness with which the corset is laced.

The tabs A and B will be made of cloth or other flexible material. The napkin may be secured thereto by pins or other suitable means. As shown in the drawings, ordinary safety-pins E E are used for this purpose, and the tabs are provided with eyelets e e to receive such safety-pins. Such eyelets are not necessary, as the safety or other pins may be inserted through the fabric of the tabs in the usual manner; but the use of the eyelets is preferred, because preventing the tabs from being torn by the strain coming on the pins and increasing the durability thereof. As hereinbefore stated, the pinsD D, carrrying the stud members d d of the stud-and-socket fasteners, are intended to be secured to the garment and to remain thereon as long as needed. The napkin or other article intended to be attached to the tabs is secured thereto when the same are loose or separated from the pins D D, and the tabs, with the napkin attached, then engaged with said pins D D by pressing the studs on the pins into the sockets on the tabs in the usual manner. The napkin may be easily removed by disconnecting the tabs from the pins and then removing the tabs therefrom.

Manifestly the device described may be used in connection with garments other than corsets, the use of attaching-pins D D enabling the tabs to be detachably secured to a garment of any kind.

Manifestly the same general result would be produced if the stud members of the studand-socket fastening devices were attached to the tabs and the socket members attached to the safety-pins.

I claim as my inventionl. An attaching device comprising a tab of flexible material, and means for detachably securing said tabl to a garment consisting of a clasp-pin, and a stud-and-socket fastening device one member of which is secured to the pin and the other to the upper end of the tab.

2. An attaching device comprising a tab of flexible material having an elastic upper margin, and means for detachably securing said tab to a garment at the ends of its elastic upper margin, consisting of two safety-pins, and two stud-and-socket fastening devices, one member of each of which is attached to one of the safety-pins and the other to the tab at one end of its said elastic upper margin.

3. An attaching device consisting of front and rear tabs of flexible material, the front tab having a single safety-pin detachably secured to its upper part by a stud-and-socket fastening device and the rear tab having a wide upper margin and having at each end of said upper margin a safety-pin detachably secured thereto by a stud-and-socket attaching device.
