CELESTIN HURT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF TO HERMAN E. VAVRA, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MACHINE FOR CUTTING NOODLES, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 748,952, dated January 5, 1904.
Application filed December 24, 1902. Serial No. 136,497. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CELEsrIN HURT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Cutting Noodles, &c. and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel construction in a machine for cutting dough into noodles and for similar purposes, the object being to provide a simple and efficient machine of this character; and it consists in the fea-' tures of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accom panying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure 1 is a central longitudinal section of a machine constructed in accordance with my invention. plan view of same. Fig. 3 is a detail section of same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2.
My said machine consists of a frame A, in which an inclined plate B is mounted, which is providedon each side with a guiderail C. To said plate B is hinged an extension member D, which may be folded over, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The said plate B extends from one end of the frame A to a point adjacent the other end thereof, the last-named end being beveled and projecting over a corrugated roller E, journaled in bearings in the side plates of the frame A. The end plate F of said frame, adjacent which said roller E is journaled, is provided with flanges G and H on both sides of its upper edge, said flange G being beveled and projecting partially over said roller E, while said flange H forms a shearing member coact-ing with knives, hereinafter described, to slice the material. Revolubly mounted on a U- shaped rod I, having its ends bent to enter openings J in the side plates of the frame and swinging thereon as a pivot, is a roller K, adapted to rest upon the'corrngated roller E and coacting with same to feed the material to the cutters. J ournaled in the end plates of said frame A and extending longitudinally below said plate B is a shaft L, carrying a Fig. 2 is a top worm M, meshing with teeth N on one end of said roller E to impart motion to said roller. The said shaft L carries a wheel 0 at one end, provided with a crank-handle P, by means of which said wheel and shaft are turned. At diametrically opposite points said wheel 0 carries practically radial knives Q, which are mounted on ribs R on the inner face of said wheel and which pass close to and'preferably in light contact with the outer shearing edge of said flange H of said end plate F. The
other end of said shaft is provided with a longitudinally-adjustable collar S, which bears against the outer face of the rear end plate of the frame, while between the wheel 0 and end plate F a spiral compression-spring T is interposed, which serves to hold said shaft L at the forward limit of its movement, said collar S and spring T serving to adjust the plane in which the knives Q revolve relatively to the shearing edge of the flange H of said end plate F of said frame A.
In operation the dough or other material to be sliced is placed on said plate B and one end inserted under the roller K. The shaft L and wheel 0 are then revolved, thereby actuating the roller E to feed the material forward at a given speed, the knives Q slicing off the portion projecting beyond the shearing edge of the flange H.
My said machine is very simple, durable, and eficient, is readily adjusted and cleaned, and operates with great rapidity.
I claim as my invention- A cutting-machine comprising a frame, an inclined feed-table supported thereon, provided at one end with a hinged extension, and cut away at its other end on its lower face, a feed-roll jonrnaled in bearings at one end of said frame and projecting into said cut-away portion of said feed-table, a beveled projection on the end wall of said frame extending over said feed-roll and adapted to receive the material to be out, a shaft journaled in bearings in the end walls of said frame, a crank-wheel at one end of said shaft, knives carried by said crank-wheel, aflange on the end wall of said frame adapted to coact with said knives to shear the materialto be cut, an adjustable collar at the other end of said shaft engaging the other end wall of said frame and adapted to determine the po- In testimony whereof I affix my signature sition of said knives relatively to said flange, in presence of two witnesses. a worm on said shaft, a worm-wheel on said feed-roll meshing therewith, and a vertically- QELESTIN HURT 5 movable idler parallel with said feed-roll and Witnesses:
resting thereon or on the material passing RUDOLPH WM. LOTZ,
over said feed-roll, substantially as described. E. J. LOTZ.
