LEG-FASTENING.

To all whmn it may concern.-

I Be it known that I, ALEXANDER Ow, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Brighton, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leg-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in cast-metal legs for bath-tubs and other articles; and it consists in apart-icular construction of leg and of fastening means integral with the tub-body by which the leg is easily and firmly secured in position by a single screw. The invention is particularly adapted to be used with enamel tubs without injuring the enamel. p

In the drawings herewith my invention is fully shown.

Figure I is a vertical cross-section of a leg secured to the base of the tub, at right angles to Fig. II. Fig. II is an inside or rear elevation of the leg inposition, the tub-bottom being shown in section and portions of the parts integral therewith indicated in dotted lines. Fig. Iii is a top plan view of a leg detached. Fig. IV is a bottom plan of a portion of the tub, showing the fasteninglmeans integral therewith.

In the figu res, 1 indicates the bottom of the tub, having the integral projection 2, slotted at 3 for the nut 4, engaging with the screw 5, fitting the screw-hole 6, and having the integral downwardly-depending locking-lug 7. The tub is also provided with the corner-lugs 8 to engage with the inner margin of the leg, reinforced by ribs 9. The upper margin 12 of the leg 13 is upwardly curved at its face 1a to fit the curve of the tub and there notched at 15 to engage with the forward lug8and at its ends has the hooks 16 to hook around the corresponding lugs 8 8 on the body. The leg is provided with the integral shank 20, slotted at 21 to fit the locking-lug 7 when the leg is secured in position by the tightening of the bolt 5, also engaging with said slot, and on the inner ends of said shank are claws 22, engaging with the'inner edge of the integral projection, beveled at 23 to fit. By this construction I have produced a leg which is cheap, convenient, andv easy to secure in position on the bottom of the tub or other-article by means of a single bolt and when so secured maintains itself firmly in position against all strains by means of the engagement of the various parts-that is, the lugs on the leg with the three corner-lugs on the tub-body, the locking-lug on the body fitting theslot in the shank, and the shank-claws engaging with the surface of the integral projection. These features are improvements on the invention of my Patent No. 619,988 and accomplish the desired result of securing the leg firmly in positionwithout the integral leg-seat there shown. The metal parts integral with the tub arein this application of the smallest,forithas been found that in case of enameled tubs it is desirable to have as little variation in the thickness of the metal as possible, and in the fastening means of my patent theextra thick ness of the leg-seat introduced an irregularity in heating on the inside of the tub, so that it was necessary to heat the tub excessively hot to fuse the enamel, thereby affecting the quality of the glaze. In my presentinvention the fastening means or looking parts are integral with the tub-body and are so small as to have no such elfect on the heat and glazeand the upper margin of the leg is adapted to fit snugly against the body itself. In case of a tub provided with different fastening means they may be ground elf, and my integral projection, ribs, and corner-lugs may be cast separately and secured thereto by screws for the attachment of the legs described herein.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a fastening means, the combination with a metallic bath-tub or other body, of an integral projection on the bottom of the tub having openings to receive a nut and a screwtip, integral lugs on the body, a leg having an upper margin upwardly curved on its face to engage directly with the tub-body around the lugs, hooks on the ends of the leg margin to engage with the lugs, a slotted shank on the leg, claws on the shank to engage with the front of the projection, and a single bolt and nut to secure the leg to the body.

2. In a fastening means, the combination with a metallic bath-tub or other body, an integral projection thereon having a slot to receive the fastening-nut and a hole entering said slot from below to receive the screw-tip, three integral lugs on the body arranged substantially at equal distances from the projection, two on each side and one forwardly thereof, integral ribs connecting the lugs to the projection, a leg having an upper margin upwardly and forwardly curved to engage directly with the tub-body around the lugs, said margin being formed at its upper portion with a notch to engage with the forward lug, integral hooks at the ends of the margin to hook around the other two lugs, a slotted, inwardly-projecting shank on the leg, integral claws on the inner ends of the shank beveled to engage with the beveled inner surface of the projection, a downwardly, depending locking-lug on the projection substantially fitting the slot in the shank, a nut arranged in the slot in the projection and a screw engaging with said nut and with the slotted shank.

In a fastening means, the combination with a metallic bath-tub, of an integral projection on the bottom of the tub having a slot to receive a nut and a hole communicating with the slot to receive a screw-tip, integral lugs on the body, a leg having an upper margin upwardly curved on its face to engage directly with the tub-body around the lugs, hooks on the ends of the leg margin to engage with the lugs, a slotted shank on the leg, claws on the shank on each side of the slot to engage with the projection, an integral, downwardly-projecting locking-lug on the projection to engage with the leg-slot, and a single bolt and nut to secure the leg to the body.

In means for fastening legs to bath-tubs, the combination with the tub and the leg, of an integral projection on the bottom of the tub, provided with openings for a nut and screw, of three integral lugs on the tub-bottom arranged respectively in front and on each side of the projection, said leg having an upper margin making direct contact with the body and a notch in said margin to engage with the forward lug, lugs on the leg for engaging with the side lugs on the body, a slotted shank integral with the leg, and a screw and nut to engage with said projection and shank, the tub-bottom being smooth and of ordinary thickness between and outside of the front lug and the respective side lugs, substantially as set forth.

5. In means for fastening legs to bath-tubs, the combination with the body and the leg,

of a projection integral with the tub-bottom provided with openings for a nut and screw, three integral lugs on the tub arranged respectively on each side and in front of the projection and substantially at equal distances therefrom, integral ribs on the tub connecting the projection to the three lugs, the leg having an upper margin making direct contact with the body, logs on the ends of the leg margin to engage with the side lugs on the body, a slotted shank integral with the leg, and a screw and nut to engage with the slotted shank and the projection, the tubbottom being smooth and of ordinary thickness between and outside of the front lug and the respective side lugs, substantially as set forth.

6. In means for fastening legs to bath-tubs, the combination with the tub and the leg, of an integral projection on the bottom of the tub provided with openings for a nut and a screw, of three integral lugs on the tub-bottom arranged directly in front of and on each side of the projection, said leg having an upper margin making direct contact with the body and a notch in said margin to engage with the front lug, lugs on the ends of the leg margin to engage with the side lugs on the body, a slotted shank integral with the leg, an integral, downwardly-projecting locking-lug on the projection fitted to the leg-slot, and a screw and nut to engage with said projection and shank, substantially as described and shown.

7. In means for fastening legs to bath-tubs, the combination with the tub and the leg, of an integral projection on the bottom of the tub provided with openings for a nut and a screw, of three integral lugs on the tub-bottom arranged directly in front of and on each side of the projection, said leg having an upper margin making direct contact with the body and a notch in said margin to engage with the front lug, lugs on the ends of the leg margin to engage with the side lugs on the body, a slotted shank integral with the leg, an integral, downwardlyprojecting locking-lug on the projection fitted to the leg-slot, claws on the ends of the shank on 'each side of the slot to engage with the inner face of the projection, and a screw and nut to engage with said projection and shank, substantially as described and shown.
