Description
No. 748,608. PATENTED JAN. 5, 1904.
J. HUENI.
NOZZLE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 8, 190a.
N0 MODEL.
Patented January 5, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN IIUENI, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NOZZLE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 748,608, dated January 5, 1904. Application filed May s, 1903. Serial to. 156,134. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HUENI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nozzles; and I do-hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereou, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements in nozzles, and has for its object an improved spraying device especially adapted for floriculture, where a fine even spray is desired.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a front elevation. Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the nozzle, the spraying device being shown in plan. Fig. 4 is a similar View taken at right angles to Fig. 3.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates a nozzle having a straight or unbeveled bore extending to the extremity thereof.
, Within said bore 7 is a spraying-plug 8, which is oval in cross-section and fits snugly in the bore at its largest diameter, leaving passages 9 for the water at the shorter diameter on both sides. The plug is held in place by a screw 10, which passes through the wall of the nozzle and into the plug, and its inner end is beveled to a wedge-shaped point 8*. The point divides the stream of water into two parts, which are discharged from the mouth of the nozzle in a fine spray, due to the narrowness of the passages. The outer end of the plug is flush with the end of the nozzle and the sides of the plug and bore are parallel for a considerable distance, so that the discharge is not lateral from the mouth of the nozzle, as where a conical plug is used, but is in a straight line, which is highly advantageous in putting the spray where it is wanted, the difliculty of directing or controlling a conical spray being well known.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a nozzle having a straight bore to its extremity, of a plug of oval cross'section fitting closely at its largest diameter therein, and having a wedge point at the inner end thereof and sides extending parallel to the bore to the outer end thereof, and a screw extending through the wall of the nozzle and bearing in binding contact against the plug.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN HUENI.
