COMBINED BUTTON AND TIE-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 748,434, dated December 1903- Application filed March 12, 1903.

Be it known that I, EDWARD STEMPEL,a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Combined Button and Tie-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to garment-fastenings; and its object is to provide a new and improved combination button and tie-holder arranged to securely hold a scarf, necktie, or other similar neckwear in place to prevent sidewise movement or creeping of the neckwear and to give a dressy appearance to the wearer.

The invention consists of novel featu res and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings,

- forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is a perspective view of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is a like view of the same, showing the scarf omitted. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the same, showing the scarf and the collar removed; and Fig. 4 isa perspective view of the improvement.

The combination button and tie-holder, as illustrated in the drawings, consists, essentially, of a support A, from which projects forwardly a button B, and from the support ex tend sidewise in opposite directions V-shaped arms 0, terminating at their free ends in downwardly-extendingclamping-armsD. As illustrated in Fig. 4, the support A and the side arms 0 are made of a single piece of wire, on which the button B is secured; but I do not limit myself to this particular construction, as the support A and side arms 0 may be difierently constructed.

In using the device'the button B is passed from the inside of the neckband E of ashirt E through the buttonholes therein, so that the support'A extends on the inside of the neckband E, while the V-shaped arms 0 are on the outside thereof, as plainlyindicated in Fig. 3. A collar F, connected with the rear button E of the neckband E, is passed of the shirt and collar.

between the members of the V-shaped arms Oand then secured to the button B, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2, whereby the lower edge of the collar F rests in the bottoms of the V- shaped arms, and is thus held against downward movement on the shirt E. The neckband G of the scarf, tie, or similar neckwear G is passed around the collar F, under the clamping-arms D, and over the outer members of the V-shaped arms 0, so that the upper edge of the neckband- G of the scarf abuts against the joint between the clamping arms and the terminals of the side arms 0, as plainly illustrated in Fig. 1.

The clam ping-arms D firmly clamp the upper portions of the neckband G, so as to prevent a sidewise or creeping movement of the neckband G, and hence the scarf G is always held in proper position relative to the front Furthermore, the clamping-arms D may be ornamented with precious stones or the like, as indicated in the drawings, to give the wearer a very dressy appearance.

The device is very simple and durable in construction, cheap to manufacture, and easily applied and arranged to prevent downward movement of the collar and upward and sidewise movement of the ueckband G of the neckwear G, as previously explained.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent l.
